Darkness Falls (NO LONGER UPDATING)

Chapter Nine

Tilling the garden was one of the harder jobs to do because there was a lot of farm. Fenix made sure it was done right too. So it was always hard to do it right the first time. So after going over the garden multiple times it was finally tilled to Fenix's approval. After that I went to take a shower. Then I went back to my room. I laid in bed looking through my skylight. I had found a gaming system but since the internet all over the world was down I couldnt connect to any servers.

I was stuck playing single player games and sometimes co-op with Ava and Fenix. We usually played Halo or Call of duty. We turned on the radio and listened to tunes while we played most of the times. I had no other things to do around the compound so I just took naps waiting for Ava and Fenix to get done with their jobs. Fenix was not the most talented gamer, but he always had the most fun. Ava was really good, maybe better than me. Pfft, no ones better than me. I won national game contests all the time. Most of the contests I won were first person shooters, but every once in a while I took home a classic game trophy. 

I started to doze off then my door swung open. Ava and Fenix both walked in. They both then sat on my bed. I grabbed the controllers and set them up.

"What game should we play?" I asked them.

"We should play Halo Reach." Said Fenix.

"No, we are all max level in that game, lets play Rocket League. It would be fun." Ava said.

"I can agree with that." Said Fenix.

"Okay then." I said, putting the game in the game system. We sat down and started playing. We played for about 30 minutes. Then there were more cracking sounds that sounded like gun-shots outside. Ava tilted her head back and sighed.

"Why are they playing with firecrackers again?"

"I don't even know how they are playing with firecrackers, I got rid of them all." Fenix says.

We all share a look of uneasiness. After a couple minutes of waiting to see if they were firecrackers we heard an even louder boom followed by more smaller booms. I grabbed the pistol that was sitting on my nightstand and ran to the door. Fenix grabbed his rifle and Ava grabbed her pistol too. We then walked out the door into chaos. There was gunfire coming from the front gate as I saw people of our group being tore down. The guard towers were under such suppressing fire that no one could get a shot off. I peeked around the wall to see who was shooting.

There was a group about 9 or 10 large armed with high caliber machine guns and wearing riot gear. They were mowing through any obstacle. I aimed my gun at one of them, firing three rounds. One ricocheted right off, One went into the armor, but didn't affect the gunman, and the third hit a soft-spot making the persons arm go limp. Fenix then looked at me.

"Good shot. Now cover me." He said and then ran across the road firing rounds as he went. Most of the bullets missed, but the ones that made contact caused serious damage. I peeked around the corner and fired at the men too. Then he ducked behind some sandbags. He nodded at me giving me a thank you. Then he popped up and fire another round, literally tearing off the head of one of the men. Then Fenix ducked again because of an incoming volley of rounds. 

I fired some more rounds and ended up shooting one in the leg, he then knelt down and kept firing. Now the fire was incoming at me. I looked behind me for Ava. The thing was is that she disappeared. I looked at Fenix and he just shrugged his shoulders. Then he popped up again and shot another man. His high caliber rounds ripping right through the armor. I peeked around the corner and almost got my head ripped off. Fenix fired another round and popped off one of the mens arms. I yelled to Fenix.

"Cover me!" 

"Will do!"

Then he fired rounds while I ran across the street to an old Humvee. The gun was still on top and it had armor plating that would protect someone from some bullets. I opened the back door of the Humvee. I jumped up and climbed into the gun. I pulled back the cock and let rip on the men. Causing most of them to jump out of the way. Some were ripped apart withing seconds. There were only about 4 men remaining when Ava came around the back of them firing an Ak-47 rapidly into them. I stood in the gun breathing heavily. Then I slumped down and got out of the Humvee. 

Fenix was breathing heavily too. He then stood up and sighed. I then followed him out to where the chaos ensued. We looked around camp and got everyone that was wounded to the clinic, the unlucky ones we buried. The gates were destroyed and we wouldn't survive the night here. So Ava, Fenix, and I grabbed materials and left. We went to the supermarket where Kenny died. There was no one there and Kenny's body was gone. 

We found the staff room and blockaded the door.  After that we stayed up, grieving. I was going to find out who did this. I was going to make them suffer. The people they killed were my family. Now it was just us lone survivors in a world of the dead.
