The night was long a grueling. Heavy rain beat down on the roof all night. Making our sleep minimal, not to mention the thunder. I sat guard most of the night. Scared of what might come. I take out a piece of paper that was stuffed in my jeans pocket. I had found it on one of the bodies of the assailants. It read; "Log 214, Military Base, Take over." Then in the bottom right it said this; "The Wild Ones" and then the paper was ripped. The Wild Ones played over in my head. Men and women in suits of armor attacking a small group of survivors.
Evil people they were. I was going to get my revenge and kill each and every one of them slowly. To finally think I was in a community that actually liked me. I wasn't just some nerdy out cast in a big town. I clenched my fist and then punched the wall. My hand hurting from my own mistake, bleeding because my carelessness. I stood up and walked out into the large room of the store we were staying in. Most of the guns and food were already taken, though there were some packages of candy and beef jerky.
I took one of the packages of beef sticks and ate them. When I walked back into the office we were holding out in Ava and Fenix were both awake and sitting in silence. I brought them bags of candy and other things and handed them out. They each quickly said thanks and started eating, knowing that we had a long road ahead of us. We had already discussed a plan.
"We know that they weren't the only ones because of this note."
"Well that means they could be looking for us now."
"Then I guess we need to get the hell of of dodge."
"How about Texas? Or maybe we can try to get to Solidus?"
"Solidus is a no go."
"Then we always have southern California."
"The Dead have more numbers to the south, they like the warmth."
"Then we go north."
That was some of the things said in the small meeting. The three of us eventually tried to get some sleep. I contemplated where we would go. North was not a bad idea to get away from The Dead, but that means there will be more people. More chance of raiders. We would have to lay low, which would be easy because there were only three of us. After Ava and Fenix were done eating we all stood up and grabbed out weapons. It was just barely breaking day so dead could still be roaming.
I took out my compass and turned north, and we started walking. The road was cracked and not taken care of. The cars that littered the street were old and rusted, some were even blown to pieces, and some were filled with Zombies. We kept on walking and decided to stop at the grocery store that we met Kenny and the other military men. The store still had the lights on and was deserted, still leaving food and water.
I grabbed a couple cans of food and some bottles of water. Ava and Fenix did the same.
"We need to hurry. What if those military guys came back?" Ava says.
"Then we fight." Fenix replies.
"Or we run and avoid the conflict." I say sternly.
They both stop to stare at me and then they nod. They grab the final bits and pieces of what we can and we walk out the door. Fenix trails behind to lock it up so that another lucky survivor could find the non-zombie infested food jackpot. This was when I started keeping my journal. A journal that will be found one day, after all this is over. Then the people of the new age can be told the magnificent and horrifying stories.
Sorry about the delay, school got me scared. I need to have good grades so I have been working really hard and I cant update often. Once I can start again I will update as often as possible. Thanks for reading! - Garrett
