When I woke up, I was in the woods, or at least I think so. I had an enormous pain in my head which was clouding my sense of understanding a bit. I blinked a couple of times and shook my head a bit, trying to clear the fogginess.
"Welcome to the world of the living," said a voice to my right. It sounded familiar. Then I realized it was the voice I heard before I blacked out.
I turned my head to the sound, and I can tell you I was not ready for what I saw. What I saw was an extremely attractive boy around my age. He was looking at me with gorgeous sea green eyes. His messy black hair seemed to never have been in place. I almost melted on the spot. But that was just his face. When I looked down, I saw he was shirtless. I think I may have drooled a little.
He saw me look down. "Oh sorry. My shirt had some holes in it from the fire. Plus it was smoking and didn't smell very good, so I took it off. I hope that doesn't bother you."
Oh the fire, right that's how I got here. "I'm ok." I cringed. Was that really my voice? It didn't sound anything like normal.
He must've seen my reaction, because he laughed and said, "The smoke has damaged your lungs a bit. Don't worry it'll go away in a little while."
It was silent for about a minute before I said, "Were you the one who saved me?"
"Yeah," he said. "It's not a huge deal. Don't worry about it."
"Don't worry about it?!?" I practically screamed, well as much as you can scream with a sore throat. "You saved my life!"
"No I didn't!" He quickly assured me.
"Yes you did," I said quietly. "You're my hero."
He blushed. "Well, I don't know about that. I'm not that special really."
"Sure whatever you say," I said sarcastically, rolling my eyes. "You jumped into a burning building to save someone you have never met before. That's special in my book."
"Ok, whatever," he said. "Are you hurt?"
Wow that's sweet. "I'm ok, but my head hurts a bit, I guess."
"Here, hold on a sec," he reached over to what looked like a cooler to his right. He pulled out a ice pack. "Hold this to your head," he said, handing it to me. "I can help you sit up, if you'd like?"
"Sure thanks," I have lived with a brother for so long that I'm normally comfortable around guys, but this time not so much. He grabbed my hand and my waist to help me sit up, an as soon as he touched my waist(even if it was over my shirt), I shivered at his strong hands and probably started blushing up a storm.
He didn't seem as uncomfortable as me, but I could've sworn I saw him blush. But maybe it was a trick of the light?
"You never did tell me your name," I told him.
"And you never told me yours," he responded.
"You first," I said.
He laughed, man I am starting to love that sound. "Ok, I'm Percy."
"Annabeth."
