"It's nice to meet you, Annabeth," Percy said to me.
"Likewise," I said, smiling.
He smiled back. Wow, his smile is gorgeous! The way his teeth just shine.
"Why were you in that abandoned wearhouse anyway?" He asks me.
"Well," I start, "my favorite place to be is in that wearhouse. It has a lot of my favorite books and...oh no!" All my favorite stuff is in that building! Hoot, my favorite books, ugh! I feel tears start to well up in my eyes. Stop! I tell myself. I can't cry in front of him.
"What's wrong?" He asks, confusion written all over his face.
"All my favorite stuff is in that building!" I practically shout. I no longer care about not trying to cry. I just let the tears fall.
"Oh no, come here," Percy says, crawling over to me. He sits down next to me and puts his arm around my shoulders. I fall into his chest. "Shh, it's ok," he says and starts to rub my back.
"It's...just that...my...favorite place...in the...world is...now...gone," I say between sobs.
"It's ok," he says soothingly. "Everything's going to be fine."
"Why...were you there...anyway?" I ask, my sobs starting to slow down.
"I was walking by and I saw the flames. I heard someone coughing, so I guess my first instinct was to save them," he tells me, still rubbing my back. "I tried to find a door but they were all blocked by flames. Eventually, I found the window and climbed up to see you coughing below me. I jumped in and somehow got you out."
"See, I was right about you being my hero!" I said. "You didn't even know me, and you still saved me."
"It was nothing," he said, and now I'm sure he's blushing.
"I can't thank you enough," I told him. Then I realized the position we are in, and I too started to blush. He had his arm around me and my head was against his chest near his shoulder. I leaned up, but he didn't remove his arm from my shoulders. Now we are both blushing up a storm.
"It's no problem really," he says, looking at the ground. He's so cute when he's shy. Wait did I just call him cute? But yeah I guess he is.
And now my face is probably beet red.
