Annabeth's POV
I walked up the stairs to my room right after a "wonderful" encounter with my mom. She's just annoying and mean. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love her, but she can just be annoying. She always expects so much from me. She wants me to be perfect and nothing ever wrong with me.
Annabeth you're hairs too curly. Straighten it!
Annabeth you slouch too much. Stand up straight!
Annabeth why do you have an A- in Advanced Art? Get that up to an A!
She just likes to patronize me I guess.
By the time I had thought this all through, I had reached my room.
I love my room. Besides my abandoned warehouse, well not anymore I guess, my room is the only other place in the world I feel peace. People may think of me as someone neat and tidy and organized and I am, in every place besides my room. It's just messy enough that my mom never comes into it, which is why I have peace. My brother, Malcolm, is the only one that will actually come into my room, since my dad left us a few years ago. The last we heard of him, he was living in California with some exotic woman.
Speaking of Malcolm, I have to ask him about how he and his girlfriend, Taylor, are doing. They are absolutely adorable together!
I walked over to Malcolm's room, expecting him to be there, asleep, since it was 2:30 am. I knocked on his door before entering, but as I walked in, Malcolm was nowhere to be seen. This was normal. He normally stayed out late with Taylor after their nighttime dates.
So, I walked back to my room and fell asleep as soon as my head hit my pillow.
------------------
I woke up around 11:00. Malcolm should be home by now, I thought to myself.
I walked over to his room. I knocked again before opening the door. Still no Malcolm. Weird.
He's a responsible person so he would have told mom if he was going or staying anywhere. As much as I didn't want to talk to her, I wanted to talk to Malcolm so it was worth it.
"Hey mom," I asked when I walked into the kitchen, where she was drinking her coffee (like every morning). "Do you know where Malcolm is?"
"He's upstairs asleep. He came home at midnight for his date with Taylor yesterday, unlike some people, who ignore their curfews and come home two hours later."
Ouch. Ok I'm just gonna ignore that.
"Um, he's not in his room. Did he maybe leave a note somewhere? He wouldn't leave without telling one of us," I wondered aloud.
So we checked the whole house, but no note from Malcolm.
"Mom, is he..." I started when we got back into the kitchen.
"Yup," she said. "He's missing. Call the police."
