"Cade. Cade!" Ben's voice suddenly rattles through my mind.
"What is it?" I ask him with my thoughts, opening the mind link. I feel not only his anxiety but also Eric's. They must have already been talking.
"I found this scent all along the southern forest," Eric explains and I can sense the smell through his thoughts. "It's everywhere!"
"Ben, get the whole pack together and have them meet in the southern forest with Eric," I order, "Tanner and I will be there in a second, Eric."
"Yes sir," The two voices in my head confirm.
"Oh and Ben," I say before the link closes, "tell everyone to be in wolf form." And with that the mind link ends and I turn to Tanner who is looking very confused as I've been starring at the table for the past minute and a half.
"Tanner, we have to go," I say getting to me feet.
"Go? Go where?" He questions, clearly not appreciating being left in the dark.
"The southern forest, Eric found another packs scent, practically coating the place." I throw the coffee away and make for the door.
"Eric? Isn't he the one who found my scent in the woods too?" Tanner asks, following me out the door. He throws a hand over his shoulder to wave at the barista as she tells us to have a "brew-tiful day."
"Yeah," I say, not getting what he's saying.
"Does he have advanced smell or something? It's a little weird that he's the one who keeps finding these," Tanner explains.
"Well, I don't think it's weird, it's only been twice in a row, probably a coincidence, but I think it is possible he has more advanced smell than the rest of us. Ben has advanced hearing." We walk down the street in a swift walk, not quite a run.
"Really?" He looks surprised, "do you have special tricks I should know about?" He wiggles his eye brows at me.
"I'm an alpha," I laugh, "I'm good at everything." I break into a run as we veer off the sidewalk and into the woods. Tanner jogs after me and the road disappeareds into the foliage behind us.
We shift and start headed towards Eric. I instinctively know where to find him and it isn't long until I spot him through the brush. He's pacing pack and forth, fur prickling.
"Eric," I call out to him with my mind and he looks up, watching us pad out from the undergrowth. "Are we the first here?"
He nods his broad head and then we both turn as another wolf clambers unceremoniously through a bush.
"Andrew," I greet the chocolate colored wolf.
"And Sarah," Andrew adds and the blonde wolf steps delicately out of the shrub.
"Hi Sarah," I incline my head and she does too.
"God, this place reeks!" Andrew wrinkles his muzzle in disgust.
It isn't long until everyone has gathered, all in wolf form.
"Ok, so I want us to spread out a little, try and find the origins of the smell, what path they must have taken. We should be on the look out for any clues as to what provoked this. And we need to re-scent the place. Roll in bushes, piss on trees, do whatever, you know the drill." I announce to the group via mind link. Tanner isn't yet in out pack so he can't share the mind link, but because we're mates, he still has a pretty good idea of what I'm thinking, and my feelings. "If you see, hear, smell, get a funny feeling about anything, don't hesitate to tell me." I say seriously. "Alright, let's go." With that we head off into our own direction, mostly south facing but a few going slightly south/east or west.
