My head feels heavy the next morning. That's weird I didn't know you could get a hangover from crying. But that was seriously messed up. I look over at the sleeping angel in the bed beside me, how could anyone say those things to him? I was going to crush this Alpha Drake guy, I don't care what Tanner said about him being dangerous, or six foot eleven inches, he hurt my mate so I will hurt him.
I try and roll out of bed but I make too much noise and Tanner wakes up. "Hey," he says groggily, blinking up at me.
"You're awake," I smile at him, but I know he can tell how forced it is. I can't stop worrying about him.
"You need to stop," he sounds so upset by the notion that I care about him, and what happened in his past. Maybe he's over it but I'm not! "Come'err," he reaches the back of my neck from where he is and pulls me down, kissing me hard on the mouth.
"Wait—Tan—er—I," I sneak in sillabubs between brakes in him kissing me, but he ignores me, laying me on the bed and moving to sit on top of me. "Wait Tanner!" I manage quickly while he's broken away for breath.
"What?" He concedes, throughly annoyed.
"Is he the reason you won't let me top?" I ask, it would make sense, if he was basically forced to be bottom for this alpha he wouldn't necessarily want to be a bottom again.
He groans loudly, and flops down on the bed. He turns his head to glare at me. "No, I just don't want to take it in the ass," he snaps at me, and I feel my skin prickle at his steely glare.
"O—okay," I nod, looking anywhere but the daggers shooting from his eyes. After a minute my stomach growls and I get an idea, "Tanner, do you want to—" my words are cut off as Danny frantically try's to mind link me.
"Alpha! Alpha!" I hear the she-wolf's panicked voice in my head and I immediately open the link. "Alpha, Eric's been attacked! There were two of them and we fought them off but I think more are coming and Eric is pretty hurt, I don't know how to help him." Even in her mind I hear her voice crack as she talks about her pack member.
"Try and stay were you are, I'm on my way!" I reply and turn to Tanner who hasn't moved from his spot on the bed. "I'm going out, Danny and Eric were attacked in the woods, are you coming with?" I want him to, so so badly but there's a long pause before he replies.
"I'll met you later," he sounds tired so I let it go. I leave him and head for the forest as fast as I can. As soon as I reach the tree line and I'm hidden from the street I shift, Ignoring the tearing of my pants, didn't like them anyway. It doesn't take me long to find them, curled by the base of a tree. Danny is licking Eric's side, his dark fur is smudged with red streaks.
"How bad is it?" I ask, padding silently through the underbrush. They both look up when they hear me mind link, not having noticed my approach.
"It's a scratch—" Eric starts only to be interrupted.
"It's long, but not deep. He'll be okay, but it should be bandaged at the least," Danny isn't even trying to hide her concern and I admire that.
"Take him to the ER, tell them he was..." I struggle to think of something believable that wouldn't cause alarm—bear attack would attract hunters into the woods, but falling out of a tree sounds too made up, what could he have been doing in a tree?—"tell them he was attacked by a rabid dog you've since killed."
She nods and they both shift, Eric with a great deal of pain. Danny finds some clothes she's stashed—because we're smart like that and plan ahead—and they start back to the street, slowly as Eric favors his wounded side, it looks so much bigger in human form. My gut twists and I turn back to the forest determined to find the scent of their attackers.
