Chapter 29

3rd POV

The young monster seemed to have calmed, the good news had reached his ears early.

"So, you won't be screaming anymore 'let's get her NOW' " the old man mused, a fat smirk on his lips.

but the gray eyed youngster regarded him with nothing but a chuckle.

"As long as they are safe, I will keep my trap shut as well." he retorted contently.

"I see, I'll take care of the rest, but if you want to, you can go to keep an eye at her." he turned to leave but was stopped by the young man, that looked boyish right now.

"I don't know, how to thank you." his voice was soft and his eyes brimmed with thankfulness.

"Thank me when it's over."

Kala POV

I heard a door slam shut and peaked through the key hole of my room. Clover stood there in the entry hall, her head hanging down in thought.

"I know that you are behind the door."

I sighed before opening the door, smiling sheepishly at her, of course she knew.

"Hey, been a while." I greeted her while licking my chipped lips.

She nodded her smile widening. "Tea?" she asked pointing a hand towards the kitchen.

"Yes, please." I answered quietly, noticing the small glimmer in her eyes.

I sat on the couch, hugging my knees and waiting for Clover to speak. She had something to talk about, everyone could see it and it was probably about Aaron.

I prepared myself to somehow defend my behavior, but found no way.

How? I didn't really understand it myself! I wanted him to talk, but didn't want to talk myself, on top of it we are particularly strangers! Why should we talk to each other, there is no reason to!

"Aaron is kind of angry with you." her voice carried a sense of humor which lightened the mood, but still it was kind of awkward. She was standing in the kitchen- waiting for the water to boil but glanced at me, taking in my reaction.

I scowled- the tiniest bit, but held myself back to scream profanities at his name nonetheless.

"We quarrel day and night, nothing new." I answered dismissing the topic, but of course Clover didn't spare me.

"He has a weak spot for children." she continued with a serene voice, and waited for the words to sink in before continuing.

"But he hates brats, that don't know when to stop, the most." her word accompanied by a small growl, that slightly shocked me. It just wasn't like her, for me at least.

"I guess, I count to the later." I smiled wickedly at her, as she raised one of her perfect eyebrows.

"Yes, you do. And if I might add, you were very close to be bashed and fixed up by him today! How much self preservation instincts do you actually have?" her voice was harsh and she gestured her hand dramatically towards me.

"No blood, no foul, right?" I retorted with a slight snort.

"I wouldn't push it darling, believe me, you don't want to be on his bad sides."

Her green eyes narrowed at me, to put more weight on her words.

And I believed her instantly, I DID remember how he simply looked at Leon killing a man, how he killed one of my tormentors at new years, or the last two. It scared me to know he could be so cold blooded and it beckoned my interest when I saw him so peaceful and sad at the same time.
