I STUMBLED BACK in shock. My mind was reeling. "What did you just say?"

"A girl died from a drug overdose early this morning, Lo," she whispered to me quietly, her eyes cast downwards. "Her name was Emily Summers."

Emily.

Emily. Sunset girl.

We met at the party last night. Oh my God.

She had taken drugs? I didn't even realise. But the symptoms - nausea, cramps, dizziness, losing balance, drowsiness. Oh God. I could have saved her.

I felt the tears rising before they even surfaced.

My mood changed instantly, from sadness to rage as I screamed out, "What the fuck?" I swivelled my head to face Arlo and Caleb, my eyes narrowing. "What the fuck?" I repeated, directly towards them now.

"What?" Arlo snarled at me, he stood tensely as his jaw tightened.

"You! I thought you were careful! You fucking idiot!"

"Why the fuck are you blaming me? Chill out."

"You gave her the pills!" I screeched at him. I've never agreed with what he and Caleb do, but I keep my nose out of his business as I know he's usually always careful not to give out too much, or get caught.

The room was filled with silence as the others stared. I couldn't believe that because of something we were involved in, someone had died.

"I know you sold them to her! Why did you give her so many you fucking idiot," I seethed. Usually, I wouldn't get this mad. But this wasn't the usual. This was someone's life we were talking about. Someone I had met, and tried to help, but obviously not enough.

"I didn't give her anything, I didn't even see her last night!"

"Well, I saw her last night." Everyone quietened down.

"What do you mean, Lo?" Alice whispered.

"I met her in the bathroom. She was having some problems, but now, I realise, she was showing the symptoms of a drug overdose," I begin to yell again.

"I could have saved her. I could have saved her," I whispered as I sank to the ground.

I felt an arm go around my shoulders, as a soothing voice whispered to me reassuring words, telling me that it wasn't my fault. But it was. I threw my arms around Sav and continued to sob silently. I was in shock.

"Ar, this is serious, someone has died for God's sake," Emerson pleaded with him. "Are you one hundred percent sure you never gave her anything?"

"Yes Em," he sighed, rolling his eyes.

"And you, Caleb? Who'd you give yours to?"

"Just some of the guys on the football team," he replied.

"Someone else has provided her with them then. Enough to kill her."

This brought my head back up.

"You mean, like a murder?" I asked shakily. She nodded her head, gesturing to us to sit around the table.

"Her father owns a large business. The huge hotel chain one, he's global. He was just about to merge with another hotel company. This surely can't be a coincidence." Several heads nodded around the table at her thoughts.

You may be thinking, 'Lola, why are you guys immediately suspicious? You're rich kids, with all the money to buy all kinds of things, including drugs, and maybe she made a mistake and took too many.' Well, the kids at this school can't come here just because your family is a little rich. You need to be the richest of the rich. Everyone here has parents that are important people in the country, in the world. Nothing here gets treated normally, as here, everything is suspicious. Or at least to me everything is.

"But who would have the motive?" Sav spoke up from beside me.

"Katie's family owns the other, more select hotels, only here in this country. If the other hotels merged, they'd be out of business?" Noah suggested.

"Someone had it out for her. And who knows who's next on their hit list. It could be one of us."

I get home from school, and chuck my bag to the ground, moving to the stairs to go straight upstairs. My mum isn't home, she's at the hospital again. She practically lives there, with the number of hours she spends there.

Maia, our housekeeper and cook calls out to me as I'm taking the stairs, "Want any food, Lola?"

"No," I replied dejectedly, opening the door to my bedroom.

I move over towards the bed, and faceplant down, exhausted from the day. I pick up my remote, and turn the tv on, scrolling to the news before turning it up.

"Last night, a student at Morringsworth Elite overdosed, and died on her way to the hospital. Test results show that she had benzylpiperazine in her system, an ingredient commonly used in party pills," a news reporter was saying.

I drowned out the sound of her voice, and my thoughts wander to Emily.

I could have saved her. If only I recognised the signs earlier, and called the ambulance sooner, she could have survived.

There was a quiet knock on the door, "Come in," I groaned.

Maia walked in with a bag of skittles and half a plate of chocolate cake with yoghurt and fresh berries on the side. "How did you know?" I asked.

"You didn't come say hi to me in the kitchen," she responded back with a sad smile. "What's wrong Lola?"

"Someone's dead. Someone I could have saved. It's my fault."

Maia's eyes flitted to the tv, to see the news story on the girl just finishing up. She moved to hold my face in her hands, "Hey. Don't you dare blame yourself. Was it you that shoved those drugs down her throat? No. She chose to take them. You are not going to blame yourself," Maia told me firmly.

She wiped underneath my eyes, making me realise that I had, indeed, been crying. Again.

"She's never going to get to see the rest of Pretty Little Liars," I frowned through my tears, thinking of how it has taken only seven or so years for six and a half seasons to come out.

"She's never going to get married!"

"She's never going to have children!" I began wailing embarrassingly.

And that's the very sad truth.

A/N

I do not agree with drug-taking, and strongly advise everyone not to take drugs, ever. I've seen the effects of party pills on someone, and it's scary, they aren't themselves. Please be safe guys!
