Another week passes, and everything is surprisingly quiet. No drama. Except Stella returned to school. It must've been a tough week for her, although I didn't actually see her.
We all ditched Friday and hung out at Alice's by the pool, so it was basically like a four day week instead of the usual five. Sara wasn't invited, although she is invited to Arlo's tonight. Sadly.
I know that Em, Noah, and I don't like her. I don't know how the others feel yet.
Em doesn't like her because she doesn't want anyone to come into our tight-knit group. She thinks they'll ruin the dynamic.
I really don't know why we've held this recruitment thing every year. At the beginning, four years ago, we did it for entertainment. As the years passed, it was still for entertainment, but none of us considered what would happen if someone actually made it through the night. Because none of them did. Until now. I suppose this year we were a bit nicer than all the others.
I arrive at Arlo's at the same time as Sara does. She hops out of her convertible while I get out of my range rover. Convertibles like that are only for stupid people.
We walk up to his front door, her slightly ahead though, so she rings the doorbell.
I snort and push past her, throwing open the door whilst yelling, "Honey, I'm home!"
"In here sweetheart," he yells back. His voice came from the lounge, so that's the direction I walk in.
I hear sounds of screaming, before a "please, don't kill me." A gunshot rings out, and a gross splattering sound can be heard.
I roll my eyes. Really? A horror movie? I hate horror movies, with a fiery passion.
I open the door slowly, deciding that scaring Arlo will be my fun for the night. I creep inside before hiding behind the couch he's sitting on, where he's clutching a pillow tightly to his chest.
The music gets slower, it's that kind of music that you know something bad's about to happen, but you still get scared out of your mind when it does.
Just as the music is reaching a climax, I pop up from behind the couch and scream, "Boo!!" Right into Arlo's ear.
I've never heard a teenage boy scream so loud.
He lets out a high pitched shriek, and turns around, holding the pillow out in front, as if that will be a reasonable defence against the monsters, aka me.
I'm clutching my chest at this point, doubled over in laughter. "Your face," I manage to get out. "Your- scream," I'm laughing so hard now, tears threaten to come out. I haven't had a good laugh in a while.
Alice is also laughing, replaying the video she took on her phone. I hear his loud scream, and that's all it takes to get me started again.
"Shut up Lola," he frowns, picking up the remote to the tv and flicking it back to the home screen of Netflix. "I'm not in the mood for a horror anymore," he sulks grumpily.
I move around to go and sit on the couch with him, before noticing Sara standing there, a sort of amazed expression on her face.
"What?"
"It's just-"
"Spit it out."
"You guys are so normal," she seems confused, emphasising the 'normal.'
I roll my eyes. "We're just humans," I tell her before plonking down onto the couch and moving to pick up the remote.
Just as my hand snakes around it, Arlo grabs the other end. "Nah uh," he's shaking his head.
"We aren't willing to sit through Clueless, or any other chick flicks. No thank you, right Noah?" Arlo looks to his friend for back up.
"Right. No more Clueless, please. We've seen it probably thirty times already, no need for a thirty-first," Noah attempts to save Arlo.
"Hmm," I pretend to ponder his statement for a while. "That's interesting."
"Isn't that interesting, Em? Wouldn't you say that's an interesting statement, coming from Noah?"
"It is indeed," Em's grin is Cheshire cat-like.
"What are you guys talking about?" Arlo resembles a confused puppy. His face is pulled into a concentrated frown as he tries to make sense of our words. How sweet.
Noah's face is blank, but I saw his eyes widen before when I mentioned how interesting his statement was.
"Oh nothing," I say innocently. Noah looks relieved at my words.
I laugh evilly, "Just the fact that Noah once told me he secretly loves the movies I play." My grin is huge, Em's face matching mine as we relish in the panicked look that is now residing on Noah's face.
"Including Clueless."
"Traitor!" Arlo yells, running over to tackle Noah to the ground, while us girls watch on, amused.
I take this as a chance to put on the movie, and I shove the remote down the back of the couch so Arlo has no chance of finding it to change it to an action.
The boys play fight for a bit, like boys, while Caleb yells out who's winning, like a commentator for a boxing event.
"Noah's swung a punch, and ooh, the fight is intense. There's no telling who's going to win at this moment," he dramatically reports, his hand held up to his mouth as if it has a microphone inside it.
Suddenly, Caleb whips out the megaphone that we had at Alice's the other day, and now begins screaming into it, reporting the 'match' play by play.
He's usually the quiet one, but sometimes, he gets really into our silliness and joins in.
We're all here now, Sara and I being the last ones in, but suddenly the door swings open, and a familiar face stands there.
"Finally. I had to let myself in, I thought I'd never find you guys," she tells us, her face gleaming.
My mouth drops.

Can you guess who's just walked in?
Unedited :( 2 chapters as an apology, I've been so inactive and I don't have time to do anything other than a quick upload. Once I get back home (in a few weeks) then I'll be able to edit and write more and read other peoples books.
next up: find out who it is, and the night continues with their sleepover.
