"Who wants pancakes?" My mother came rushing into my room, "Happy birthday my little man! You'll be eight in one hour!"

"Yay, pancakes!" I ran down to the kitchen and was served a big plate of three pancakes with syrup, strawberries, and orange juice. I ate it all up in two minutes. They were very good. I remembered it was a friday, so I had school, but I looked at the clock. It said 10:22 am, I hugged my mom and said thank you.

"You're welcome buddy! Now go get dressed and we'll go to Fun World!"

Everything went dark. "Esther." I mumbled, "Esther."

No answer. I didn't feel her head on my shoulder, or see her laying there anymore. I sat up, looked around, and heard nothing. I stretched my back and got up. I walked in search of the rest of my people to the kitchen. No one there. Upstairs, no one. Basement, nope. I ventured out front to find none other than the faithfull RV tipped over on its left side, facing the house. But, still no people. "Hello?" I shouted, immediately regretting it because of the circumstances.

I had to find them. I went inside, grabbed a hat, shotgun, and wrist watch. It was 8:48 am. Looking like an idiot, I walked down the dirt road until I found a super cheap looking car. No key, of coarse. I continued on.

It wasn't the morning anymore. The grey skies were now bright blue and white killers. I needed to find the group, but also some shade. I found keys on the ground next to a dead body. I had to think whether it was worth going back to the car. Were they right keys? Even if they were, would the car work? It did look like crap. I decided to go back. I could still see the house from where the car was. When I got to the car, I saw someone standing in front of the house. They were very still. I realized they were watching me and I got a  sudden rush of terror. I didn't know them. Well, I didn't seem to know anyone so I waited to see what they would do, and they darted into the house with a duffel bag. "Hey!" I shouted.

I ran as fast as I could into the house. I got there and searched all the rooms, gun ready. All I found was our food half gone and the back door hanging open. "Shit!"

I just chose to stay at the house and wait. As much as I still wanted to move on without a group, I couldn't leave Esther. Sure, they'll be back.
