The bars had opened again, and now everyone was outside in the sand. This time there was no creature or knight. There was also no Purple. The little girl had searched in the crowd and had been unsuccessful in finding the blond head.

A different man she had not seen before had told them to sit in the sand. Children had whimpered as they sat on the bloody sand. The man had clumsily rolled in a black board and, with chalk, had written ‘Learning to talk’ on it. However the children hadn’t been able to read it.

“I’ll teach you all to talk like I do. Use words like I do. If you don’t well…consequences will arise.” The little girl looked away. They were always giving threats. “Now let’s start simple. Say ah.”

None of the children spoke. Now there was a man with no creature and no armor. He didn’t appear frightening. “I was hoping not to resort to this.” He sighed. He pulled a gun from his back and shot one of the kids in the leg. He screamed.

“AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!”

“Good, now we’re getting somewhere. Everyone repeat after him, ah.” He said mentioning the gun in their direction. This time the children listened and all said ‘ah’.

Four more children were shot after that, one died.

It had been quite a day for the little girl, and her head hurt horribly. However now she could talk. It was weird for her to talk and she still wasn’t used to it. The man had come back to see her.

“What do we say?” He asked nicely as he crouched beside her.

“Blanket.” She muttered, feeling the odd sound roll off her tongue.

“That’s not the right way. Say, can I have a blanket please?” He snapped.

“Blanket.” She replied, she didn’t know that many words yet. She wasn’t used to talking. He slapped her on the face and she recoiled back to hit the wall. Just when the little girl had started to believe this man might be the nicest person here. Tears began to sting her eyes.

“Guess not tonight.” He said before leaving. The little girl sobbed silently as she tried to fall asleep in the cold night.
