"Would you like to come back with us to Insomnia?"
...
....
.....
..."Huh?!" I cried out loud in shock. "Me? Come back with you guys, to Insomnia?!" I had jumped up from my seat in total shock, nearly dropping the glass of water to the ground."Yes," King Regis says with a nod.
"B-but why?" I ask as I attempted to calm down, "why would you ask me something like that?"
He seemed to ponder his answer as he leaned on his knees with his elbows. His eyes drifted towards the dancing fire, the reflection of the orange and yellow flames flickering in his eyes.
"And don't tell me that it's because you feel sorry for me," I blurt, causing him to look up at me with a surprised look, which only confirmed my suspicions that he was thinking about giving me a similar answer. I swallowed the small lump in my throat before continuing. "I'd like to think you, the king of Lucis, came here to the sorry village of Solis for a very important reason, not to pick up a lone child and offer them to come with you to Insomnia because you pity them." I paused to give him time to respond, but he only stared at me with a hard stare, but I don't think it was meant to intimidate me.
"I'm tired of people giving me vague answers, so please your Majesty, I would greatly appreciate it if you told me something that had even a little bit of truth to it."
King Regis said nothing, for he seemed to be deep in thought as he stared at me. I waited in my spot for a few minutes, hoping that he would respond with something, but he only remained silent; nothing but the crackling fire and the gentle sounds of chirping crickets could be heard. After a few more minutes of silence, I closed my eyes and sighed.
"My apologies, your Majesty, but unless you tell me something believable, I won't bother considering your offer," I said. I bowed respectfully to him, muttered 'Good night,' and turned away from the three men as I made my way to the edge of the clearing.
I know I said that wanted to get out of this village, and that I said I wanted to start a new life elsewhere, but I certainly didn't expect this happen. Something about the King's arrival seems incredibly suspicious to me, but I don't know what it is. The King's behavior also seem to arouse my suspicions even more; the way his eyes seem to hold a bit of saddness sometimes when he would speak to or look at me. He's not telling me something, and yet he asks me if I would want to go with him back to Insomnia.
But what if it is because he pities me, what if he really feels bad for me and wants to take me away from here. But that still leaves me with the same question: Why? Why is he only choosing me out of the hundreds of other kids to take with him back to the city? There are children here that have a much harder life than I do, children that are starving and are barely finding any food to feed themselves and their families.
If King Regis is going to offer me to go back to the city with them, then I at least deserve to know why. Something is strange is going on, and for some reason, King Regis feels the need to drag me into it.
"A promise," King Regis called out to me, stopping me as soon as I reached the edge of the clearing. I turned around and looked over at King Regis, who was looking directly at me.
"A promise?" I repeated.
"Yes," he nods, "a promise to a dear friend of mine."
"What did you promise them?" I asked, not bothering to ask him WHO it was he made the promise to. Judging by the look in his eyes, he seems rather sad mentioning his said friend. Maybe something happened to them that he doesn't wish to talk about.
"I promised them that I would help their loved ones fulfill their destiny, to help bring the light of the sun back to Solis," he says as he slowly gets up from his seat and makes his way over to me.
