Jeremy Heere was a simple kid. He wasn't the best in school and was considered a loser to most, but he was just average. Terribly average. Since age six, he was told by his mom and dad not to enter the basement. He remembers peaking in one time to green glowing goo streaking and violently dragged on the stairs leading down. At that young age, he knew something terrible was happening in that basement. His parents were strict about not mentioning, speaking of, or even looking at the door to the underground in their son's presence. Every question he threw was dodged, every remark he made was batted at. Until about two years ago.

At age 14, end of freshman year, his mom left. The two divorced and that was the end of it. He just remembered coming home one day to her putting everything into boxes, his dad in tears on the floor begging.

After the last day of school, it's not the best thing to come home to.

She left, giving him a kiss on the head and an 'I'm sorry'. That confused him the most. Why was she sorry for leaving coldly? He shook his head before putting down his school bag.

That's when his dad let everything spill.

"Jeremy? Jeremy! You there?" A tanned hand slapped his cheeks as he blushed at his inattentiveness.

"S-Sorry, just zone out." His eyes darted to the hand's owner. It was his best friend, Michael Mell. Next to him was (Y/N), her groaning with her hands on her backpack.

"Now I have to tell the joke all over again!" She complained, causing Michael to chuckle. They were all going to Jeremy's house to play the new three-player cheat for Apocalypse of the Damned that Michael pirated off the internet. Which he did a lot ("Michael, you can't pirate Sims, the company will shut down your Wi-Fi!" (Y/N) warned. "Nah..." Only to lead to his Wi-Fi going down and his parents getting super angry at him that they came home from their business trips to yell at and ground him. He never lived that down.)

"Is your dad going to be home?" Michael asked with a quirked brow.

"No, he has this date night with Heidi, so they're leaving us with Evan." After his mom left, his dad went into a year-long depression where he wouldn't wear pants. It made the whole house feel gray until he bumped into a woman and knocked her coffee into her shirt. She became sad that she couldn't afford another, so he bought her one. Her name was Heidi Hansen and they had been dating ever since. She was a nurse who was also going to school and she had a son who was a year older than them. They and a couple other families moved to New Jersey after an incident at their old school. The kid's name was Evan and he was alright to Jeremy. He was very anxious and loved trees for some reason?

Anyway, they arrived at the house. Jeremy dug for his key before letting them in. Evan was already there, sitting on the couch with some headphones on, a laptop in front of him. The older teen's gaze moved to them as they came in.

"Hey, Evan, what's up?" (Y/N) inquired of him softly, knowing how anxious he is.

"Oh-Oh, nothing much! J-Just working on some stuff for my therapist-- I-I mean not for my therapist!! F-For school! N-No, that's lying and I don't like lying, I-I'll just be quiet now..." Evan rushed out before staring back at his laptop blankly. The three younger teens looked at each other before (Y/N) moved over and kissed the poor boy's forehead.

"So, what cereal do you have?" She swiftly slid, socks against hardwood, to the kitchen. (If you don't like cereal, imagine a snack food you like) She didn't get to see Evan Hansen become a chameleon and change colors quicker than any human possibly can. This, though, Michael noticed and he chuckled to himself before the two friends followed their female companion.
