Sparrow, can you hear me?
I opened my eyes and grunted, "Where am I?"
"Uh, in my house, I guess." Someone else said.
I know who that boy was in the office now, Phantom said softly.
I looked down at my chest. Somehow, the wound where the dagger had impaled me was gone. Just a burned part of my suit.
Looking around, I noticed the kid I had met in the Principal's office. He was sitting on his bed and looking at me.
"Okay, I give. Who are you?" I asked.
"Peter Parker," he replied, "Or, better known as Spider-Man."
My jaw dropped, "What?"
Yes, Phantom sighed, I should have realized it.
"I'm just asking, but, who are you? And why did you crash through my window?" Peter asked.
It felt like I sat there for a long time, thinking. I could tell him who I was, but he could be a bad guy. And why the heck wasn't I dead? I was stabbed!
I pulled my mask off, "All right. I'm Sparrow, remember?"
Convenient, isn't it? Phantom laughed.
Peter mumbled, "Sparrow . . . that's why you seemed so familiar. But that still doesn't explain why you crashed through my window."
I quickly explained about my fight with Kaine.
"And . . . you just . . . healed?" Peter asked.
I shrugged, "Yeah. I don't really know what the deal is with that, but it's better than being dead."
Are you going to tell him about me? Phantom asked eagerly.
Not yet. I thought back.
"I think the best thing is to probably try and find this guy before he does anymore damage." Peter said, getting up off his bed, "He could still be out there doing some serious hurt on someone."
I watched him walk over to his closet. So this was really the Spider-Man?
Confirming my question, Peter came out fully dressed in his suit, "You ready?"
"Ready as I'll ever be," I said, getting up off his floor, "Let's go find this . . . Hunter."
Phantom growled softly, Are you sure? The wound that Kaine inflicted is still there.
I paused, What do you mean?
Spidey/Peter hopped up onto the window sill, "C'mon. We've got a little while until morning. We should be able to find this guy before we gotta . . . you know. Get back to school."
"Uh, right," I said, then turned back to my other problem.
Phantom shrugged mentally, I don't know. We need to figure it out though.
I sighed under my breath and followed Spidey out the window, dreading what would happen.
"Don't worry," Spidey reassured me, "This won't take long."
***
"This is taking too long," Spidey groaned.
I looked at the torn piece of web that had held down Kaine during our fight, "I'm starting to agree with you."
Spidey hopped down from a water tower, "I don't know how to find this guy."
Maybe we should just go back to school, Phantom grumbled.
Before I could answer, a splitting pain shot through my chest. I cried out in pain and clutched it as the pain merrily spread.
Phantom was frantically muttering, while Spidey rushes over to my side.
I fell to my knees and panted; the pain had vanished just as fast as it had come. When I looked down, I saw that my chest was a faded black, like I had dunked my suit in grey dye.
"Hey! Scarlet, you okay?" Spidey asked, looking down at me worriedly.
I grunted, "Yeah, sorry. I'm fine. But . . . "
That's what Kaine's dagger did, Phantom mussed, He inflicts pain when you're close to his location.
"But what?" Spidey asked, helping me up.
"Uh," I shook my head, "I think that thing that Kaine hit me with- uh, inflicts pain."
Genius. Phantom scoffed.
I frowned, "Hey, I'm just relying the information."
Spidey tilted his head confused, "What information?"
"Never mind," I mumbled, "Come on, I think I might know where Kaine will be."
As if my body was on autopilot, my hand lifted and pointed.
My finger landed on the hazy form of our high school.
