Xavier's POV *1 year later*
My parents were arguing again. I flinched as I heard a lamp being thrown across the room. I should be used to this it was an everyday thing.
"I hate you!" My mom shouted. I'm sure the whole neighborhood heard it. "I hate you too slut!" My stepdad Frank yelled back.
They were like broken records. After this my stepdad would leave, my mom would have a breakdown and then drown herself in liquor and then Frank would return after he cheats at some cheap club. It was cycle.
I was used to it. A felt my phone buzz signaling a text message. It was sun.
Wanna go to our park?
I smiled instantly. A simple text from my best friend could make me forget about my screwed up family.
Of course. I replied
Ok be there in 10
Ok I replied.
You Ok?
No
I'll make it better. I smiled at this.
you can make everything better. I texted her back.
I threw on a white t shirt and grey sweatpants and I was ready to go. I walked to Sun's house because I was her neighbor and the park was only 10 minutes from our neighborhood.
The minute I got there, Sun was already sitting on her porch. She looked beautiful with only a white tank top and grey sweatpants.
I grinned. We were matching.
Can you say best friend goals?
She came over to me and gave me a hug. She smelled so good. I loved how she always smelled like candy and flowers. All the anger I had melted away when she touched me. Her touch was electrifying.
After the hug she gave me a sad smile. "Your parents again" she stated. I nodded afraid my voice would sound cracked. She took my hand and pressed a small kiss on the back of it. To make it worse she would look at me the whole time. I held back a groan.
She made me feel things you weren't supposed to feel for your best friend.
I always ignored my crush on her. She's my best friend. It would ruin everything "Come on" she says taking my hand and leading down the street heading to the park.
I followed behind her my hand still in hers. My best friend was so patient with me. She knew about my anger issues, she didn't care. She treated me like I mattered. That's why I adore her.
I love everything about her. From the dimple on her chin to the freckles on her ankle. She was mesmerising. God, I loved her smile. Her smile made me feel like maybe, just maybe, happiness was real. She was so stubborn so outspoken. She was the Sun after my storm.
But, of course I could never tell her that.
We reached the park before I realized it. Sun smiled at me and pursed her lips. She did this when she wanted a piggy back ride. I hoisted her on my back easily and hooked my arms under her thighs. She wrapped her legs around my torso and put her hands on my shoulders.
I ran in circles making us both dizzy. We fell in the grass in a giggle fit. After that we climbed the monkey bars until we had callouses on our hands. The last thing we do at the park is swing. I pushed her all the time because she's too lazy to swing herself. But, I don't mind.
