Chapter 3

There I was in line at the ticket booth, with my suitcase in hand. Silvia bought two tickets in the first class section and we hopped on board.

"Where are our seats?" I wondered.

"In the middle of the train. Oh, there they are," she gestured while pointing to two seats with a velvet covering next to a window across from each other. There was a small table in between them and they were nicely padded. Ooh, those are nice seats! I don't think this trip will be so bad after all! I was impressed. Silvia offered to put my suitcase up above us, but I was not quite ready for that. I preferred to have it at my feet.

I gazed outside and saw the world passing by the window. I heard the train go over the tracks. I felt the car bouncing up and down. The sun drifted down underneath a hill and then everything calmed down. There was no more chattering of the other passengers. We passed by a lake. Eventually the only sight to see was the full moon reflecting on the still water. I felt my eyelids get heavy. Then I slowly closed them and drifted off to sleep.

When I opened my eyes after what seemed like only seconds I woke up to Silvia shaking me awake.

"Wake up. We've arrived," I took a look around; Truckee was not very impressive. A small village with only a few shops. 

Then I gasped as I saw a HUGE campsite with lots of cabins and an field outside covered in fresh green grass.

"Is that where we are going?" I asked excitedly.

"Yep. That's where you will stay. Come on, we should get off the train." She replied.  We hopped off and called a taxi. It took about 15 minutes to get there. Silvia paid he driver and we entered the camp.

Silvia showed me to the main building next to a gymnasium. She entered and I followed her inside. There was a group of counselors there and she introduced me to them.

"This is Rebecca. She just arrived."

They all welcomed me warmly. I turned to leave but they stopped me.

"Don't go yet.  We still need to introduce you to the other campers!" They led me into the gym next door. There were many people there of all ages.

Silvia led me onto the stage and announced, "This is Rebecca and she is new. She arrived here this morning. I hope that you will all welcome her into our camp. I'm sure you are all eager to find out what her power is, right? Well, she can fly! All of you may now be excused and should proceed to the dining hall. Today on the menu is barbecue chicken sandwiches with caesar salad! Enjoy!" With that, I followed the crowd to what I know now as the dining hall. I stood in line and surprisingly enough, the line moved quickly.

I got my food and realized that I had nowhere to sit.  I looked around and noticed a few kids waving me to come towards them. I walked over and cautiously sat down at the spot they had just made for me. They each introduced themselves by turn.

"Hi, I'm Julie and my power is telekinesis. I can move objects with my mind," explained one girl who was sitting across from me with a mischievous smile.

" I'm Jack and I can run really fast," the boy next to me exclaimed.

"I'm Colin and I can turn invisible! I've been here since I was four. I-"

Julie cut him off and turned to me with an enthusiastic question, "Is it hard to fly? How do you do it?"

"Well, all I have to do is lightly push off the ground and will myself to fly. But I can't fly that well yet."

"That's okay, that's what we're all here for!" Jack reassured me.

We all finish eating and I was about to leave the dining hall when a camp counselor stopped me. Jack, Colin, and Lily waited for me near the door.

"Hi, I'm Annabelle. I can also fly. I'm going to be your trainer. I came over here to tell you that you will be in cabin 16. Just so you know, the girls and boys have separate cabins. Eight for the girls, eight for the boys."

"Thanks," I say, grateful for the information.

I walked over to my new friends and told them, "I'm in cabin 16. How about you guys?

"I'm also in cabin 16! Jack and Colin are in cabin 5," said Julie.

We all walked out of the dining hall. Jack and Colin headed towards their cabin.
