Chapter 2

So now when I go to school, I hear the same old comments from my classmates.

"Hey Rebecca, did you fly to school?" and lots of "Why aren't you flying right now?".

I finally made it to my locker without getting trampled in the crowded hallway and put my bookbag in it. Then I heard the bell ring. Gosh, I'd better hurry up and get to class. I don't want to miss science! I reminded myself. I walked into the class room, sat down in a seat and the class began.. By the way, none of the teachers know I can fly. Only the kids know for some reason. Don't ask me why because I try to hide it. 

I heard the teacher say,"Now settle down, settle down. We are about to start a new chapter about how birds can fly. Isn't this exciting?"

Ugh. Just great. This will be so boring. Why can't we do something better like how a human can fly? Oh well, on the bright side, I'm going to ace this subject!

Ok, I'm at break and I'm wandering through the halls debating if I should go outside and quietly fly around. I would never dare to fly through the halls because if I was caught by a teacher... Well, I'd prefer not to think about it. I decided to go outside. As soon as I stepped out, I was stopped by a teacher.

"Please don't go outside now, we're about to have a fire drill."

I backed up and then all of a sudden I heard the alarm go off. There was panic all around me and I could hear the teachers trying to calm down the children. The only sense I had working was my sight.

Moments later I saw a woman that I did not recognize walk up to me. I was frightened. I considered trying to get away from her but I wouldn't have a chance to get anywhere because of the confusion. I thought of flying, but I wouldn't dare do that. Then the woman seemed to read my mind.

"Don't worry, I'm no harm to you."

She motioned me to follow her. I obeyed. I found myself seconds later behind the school sitting on a bench.

"I told you to calm down and you do not have to worry, she said. "I know that you have the ability to fly. I know that you are wondering how I know so much about you. Having a special power is very rare. I'll introduce myself. I'm Silvia. The reason I know so much about you is because I also have a special power. Well, two actually. The first one is that I am extremely smart. The other is telepathy. Long word. It means that I have the ability to read people's minds. Anyway, the reason why I came to see you is because there is a special place, a camp in Truckee, California for people just like you."

"You mean it's for people that can fly?" I inquired.

"Well, it's for people that have a special power. There you will learn to control yours. I have already convinced your parents to let you go. You should pack your bags. We will go there by train at 4:00 PM."

"But.... but what about school?" I worried.

"Oh, don't worry. We have this special thing at camp that transfers everything done in your class into your brain. Yes, I know you're freaked out. Lots of kids are when they first hear abut this machine. All of them end up fine. So will you!"

"Ok, let's go," I agreed.
