Clarissa Bane didn't know when the line between love and hatred had blurred for her. She loved Theo Raeken and had betrayed her friends for the teenage boy that had been thrust into an eternal hell. She had been betrayed by people that she thought cared about her when they had taken him away from her. She also hated him for his choices that left her alone as her world crumbled around her slowly.

It had been months without him, months of scouting out different ways to bring him back with the help of her misfit pack. Months of searching with Evie for magical solutions that seemed to lead to dead end after dead end. She felt lost and confused, heartbreak staring her down whenever she turned a corner that led to another way that couldn't seem to bring back the boy she loved.

She knew that she should be focused on the looming threat that came with Allison's haunting warning. War was brewing in Beacon Hills between the supernatural community and the humans, but Clarissa felt like it had been building up for a long time. Since the moment that Scott McCall had been bitten, the tension in Beacon Hills had been rising and it was becoming inevitable that people would find out about them. She felt like she was fighting a losing battle every time she ran into a wall in the search to bring Theo home and with the added suspicion that the humans kept piling on top of her, she felt like she was slowly falling into a deep abyss.

When a new evil that she didn't expect threatens her hometown once again, making her forget the memories of someone that she seemed to cherish more than life itself, Clarissa Bane must fight to protect the memories that were holding her sanity with them.

Nefarious things had always happened in the town of Beacon Hills, California and sooner or later Clarissa would have to face the daunting realization that if she wanted to come out of the upcoming conflicts alive, she would have to be just as nefarious as her enemies.
