By the end of the week the whole family knew about Michael proposing to Fiona. When Carmela Corleone first heard the news she started to cry, she was excited and very happy that Michael proposed to Fiona, Carmela, however, was relieved that Michael did not propose to Kay.

The next morning after Carmela heard the news- Fiona was making her way to the kitchen to prepare some breakfast for Carmela and Vito but instantly at the sight of her, she was smothered with kisses and tight hugs from mrs Corleone.

Like his wife, Vito was happy too. He, deep down and since the beginning, knew that Michael and Fiona would get married eventually. How he knew? It was because the way he first saw Carmela and how he continued to look at his wife, he saw the same look on Michael's face when his eyes would set on Fiona.

Tom and Connie were thrilled when they heard the news, different from their brother Fredo. Michael noticed Fredo's behavior changing too, his other siblings were happy but why wasn't he? Michael constantly had to push that thought at the back of his head.

While Michael was out, Fiona rested on the bed, staring out the window as she kept cracking her knuckles.

A single thought kept lingering in her mind since she woke up, truthfully, it also physically exhausted her; how that one small particular thought never abandoned her brain.

What if Michael proposed to Kay instead of her?

At that thought, Fiona knew everything would have been much more complex and puzzling. She imagined Kay's face if Michael did propose to her, how happy and delighted she would have been since Fiona knew how much Kay was in love with the man. Then another thought came to her mind- what would their children look like if they did get married?

A little dip in the bed beside her feet made her gasp and her heart skip a painful beat as she jolted. Fiona was met with a deep purring noise beside her ear and as she turned around to look, it was Vito's gray cat. The cat pulled her out of her thoughts and a smile grew on Fiona's face as she scratched the cat's chin. The strong vibration that emitted from the cat made Fiona relax and forget about what she was thinking about for a split second.

Vito's cat was spoiled- at least in Fiona's perspective- it would always run up to Vito and throw itself on his lap and sometimes, when it bumped into Fiona it would do the same. When the cat wasn't looking for someone to scratch its chin, it was wondering outside in the garden, hunting little crickets and capturing robins.

Just like what the cat would do to Vito, it threw itself on Fiona's belly and wrapped its paws around Fiona's wrist. While it rubbed its chin on her fingers, demanding attention. Fiona's mind drifted back again to her previous and haunting thought as she stared out the window.

Fiona scoffed at herself as she rolled her eyes, how stupid was she to imagine Michael sharing his life with Kay?

If Michael didn't love her, he wouldn't have asked her to marry him. Michael wouldn't have tracked Fiona down back in Italy, he wouldn't have cared for her wound when she was injured like a broken puppy, he wouldn't have put the effort to buy her anything and he definitely wouldn't put any effort to keep up with her. And he definitely wouldn't have ditched Kay just to be completely with her. Her, and only her.

Fiona's thoughts were cut shortly when the door creaked only to see Michael at the door. At the sight of him an instant smile grew on Fiona's lips, revealing her deep dimples that sunk in both her cheeks.

"Did I wake you?" Michael said as he too, smiled back. The sight of Fiona instantly put him to ease as he knew she was safe and not in harms way. He shut the door behind him and removed his coat, making his way to sit beside Fiona on the bed.

Michael raised a brow at how spoiled his father's cat was acting, it would slightly bite Fiona's hand if she stopped petting it making Fiona giggle.

"No, I was just resting." As Fiona spoke the cat pushed itself up, head butting her chin. "I didn't know my father's cat was this spoiled." Michael chuckled as he found the cat rather amusing.

"I told you it was. You just didn't listen." After a split second, Fiona's smile vanished and a worried look took over. Michael could see the doubt in her eyes and he hoped that it wasn't because of what he was thinking about.

"You're not getting cold feet, are you?"

Fiona chuckled at the man, "no, Michael. How could I?"

"Then, what's on your mind?"

"It's just..." Fiona sighed slightly before answering, "my mind wondered on its own slightly. It's not a big deal."

Michael's dark brown orbs was all she can focus on as it was so focused on her and so demanding. Demanding her to just tell him what was wrong.

"I...just thought what it would be like if you proposed to Kay."

"And what did you gain from that, Fay?" Michael's words were intimidating but it didn't intimidate her enough to scare her.

"That you would have never proposed to Kay." At Fiona's words, Michael nodded and he instantly felt relieved.

"It was always you, Fay." Michael in fact, was speaking the truth. He remembered the first day when he first met her at Connie's wedding, how he couldn't look away from her and how she couldn't look away too.

Michael leaned in to break the space between them, holding himself as he placed both his hands beside her head- he dipped his head lower towards hers to steal a kiss, but the cat instantly blocked Michael as it pawed at his chin.

The two laughed at the action of the cat and instantly Michael pushed it aside, jumping on the bed and hovering over Fiona, the sudden action made her chuckle and he saw it as an opportunity.

Fiona caught the evil grin that grew on his lips as his eyes twinkled, his cold hands traveled beneath her shirt and at the instant touch, Fiona squirmed.

"Michael! No!"

Michael ignored her pleading as his fingers started to tickle Fiona's belly, making the woman squirm under him for release, her booming laughter made Michael laugh too, the tears started to well up in her eyes as she tried to push Michael away. That's when the cat jumped off the bed and tried to hide somewhere from the loud laughter that emitted from the two adults.

"would you stop it!" Fiona barely managed to say as she couldn't breathe anymore from laughing, that's when Michael stopped.

The usually fierce and confident man was replaced with a cheerful Michael, his laugh and smile made Fiona's head buzz as if there was a beehive in her head as it made her stomach churn, as if a million butterflies needed to escape.

"What's gotten into you today?" Fiona said as her laughter died down to giggles, wiping the tears from her eyes.

"I'm just glad to see you." Michael admitted as he finally got his chance to steal a kiss. The moment his warm lips touched Fiona's lips, she melted under his touch.

But Michael's lips abandoned hers too soon, making her pout slightly. The man took the time to take in her features as his hands cupped her cheeks, his thumb slightly rubbing her lips.

"Let's go for a walk- breathe some fresh air." Michael said, getting off of her and pulling her up with him.
