--Sophie's POV--
In all honesty, I thought after hearing the pairings, Amber and Roger would stand up and slam the table with their fists, and start barking each other's heads off.
They would be so pissed that the teacher would have no choice but to switch their partners... No, let me correct that.
Amber is pissed.
Roger is not.
And that was the shocking part, because almost 98% of the arguments and pretty much everything else that got under Amber's skin was started by him.
In fact, Roger was so calm with a smug look on his face, it only infuriated Amber more.
"Ms Kurk! Tell me this is a joke. There is no way I'm pairing up with that barbarian!!"
Roger just snorted, resting his chin on his palm.
"Wow, don't you have a wonderful personality?"
"Hey," Amber snapped her head to look at Roger, faking a smile. "It seems like you have an eye for people! Do you want at least permission to talk to me?"
Before Roger could come up with a snappy comeback, Ms Kurk cleared her throat and spoke.
"Please don't start arguing like I'm not in class. Ms Burke, the reason why I put you with Mr Adams-" She wiggled a finger at the both of them. "-is because of this."
A horrified look crossed their faces.
According to the seniors, once Ms Kurk's had her eye on you, until you finish or clear up the misunderstanding or argument between your enemy, you'll be paired with your enemy. For the rest of your high school life. Which to the both of them, meant hell.
They had a 180 degrees attitude change, because the next thing you know, they have their arms draped over each other's shoulders, faces glued together with the most superficial smiles plastered across their faces, looking like twins who are BFFs.
"No,no,no,no," Amber denied with a wave of her hand. "You misunderstand us!"
"Yeah! This is just our way of communicating!" Roger piped in with fake enthusiasm.
Laughter rose from the back of the classroom, and Roger turned around, hissing to one of his friends,"Shut up!"
I was already doubling over with laughter, watching the two arch-enemies acting as if they were best friends. Amber took 3 baths the last time Roger had accidentally bumped into her, just to scrub whatever 'residue' he had left on her.
"Very convincing act, the both of you," Ms Kurk said, evidently not convinced.
"Now get back to your seats. Class is starting."
I frowned, and looked at the sleeping pig next to me. He had been sleeping ever since he returned to his seat, and sometimes I really wondered if the teachers honestly couldn't tell if he was awake or not.
It's not like I'm excited about my partner, too.
----------------------------------------"It's all your fault for being such a lousy actor!" Roger barked, his calm demeanour ditched somewhere along the way.
"Listen here, it's 100% your fault for starting the arguments and everything else!" Amber retorted.
"Uhmmmm..." I tried to speak up.
It's been 10 minutes since the four of us had been stuck together, and they haven't stopped arguing. Sometimes it really impresses me how they can keep it up.
