We got in his pickup truck and drove off. About halfway back to my house, he turned onto a side road. "What are you doing?" I frowned. He smiled but said nothing. He pulled off to the side of the unoccupied dirt road, and turned off the engine. "Come on." He smirked as he got out.
He grabbed something from the backseat then climbed in the back of his truck. I climbed up too, still wondering what he had in mind. "Lets to star gazing together." He smiled at me triumphantly like he had this planned for a while.
I started tearing up. "You all right there?" He asked. I broke into a sob as he pulled me close to him. "What's wrong?" He asked worriedly. "You're too nice to me!" I cried. He chuckled and let go of me. He laid on his back in the blanket he laid down.
I lay next to him. "Tell me something I don't know about you." Alex said. "Hmm... Sometimes, I put syrup in my coffee." I giggled, wiping away the tears. "Interesting." He said, stroking his chin. "What about you? Tell me something I don't know about you now." I said eagerly.
"Let's see... I used to sneak out of my house at night to star gaze." He laughed a little. "I never could've gotten away with that at my house!" I exclaimed quietly. I could almost see the smile on his face in the dark. This was my best friend, my boy friend, and the love of my life.
"Alex?" I looked at him. "Yeah?" He asked, turning towards me. "I love you." I smiled. He smiled back, but rolled his eyes. "I love you too." He sighed. Silence followed for the next five minutes.
"Alex?" I looked at him again. "Yes, Maddie?" He asked. "Do you still love me?" I asked. "Yes I do." "Would you tell me if you stopped?" I asked, my forehead creasing in worry. "Oh my word, Maddie. I'm not gonna stop loving you."
"Why do you keep asking?" He looked at me exasperated. "I just want to make sure. I need constantly retold." My eyes filled with tears. So many times, people had told me they loved me. Over and again, but when the time came that I really needed them to show it...they hadn't meant it as much as I'd hoped.
"I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you." Alex smiled, "Now don't ask me for the next hour." I smiled sheepishly, "Ok... My goodness, the sky is absolutely gorgeous tonight." I sighed in awe. "Mm hmm." He agreed.
'I wish this night would never end' I thought, but my thoughts were immediately interrupted by a sharp pain in my chest. 'What?! No! Please not now Lord!' I prayed.
But something told me He wasn't going to give me a break just yet...
