FAMILY - SIMON MINTER

The nerves kicked in as the car started to slow down, and the red Range Rover pulled into a parking spot on the side of the road, he glances over to the girl who was sitting on his left, she was biting her lip in anticipation, nervous of meeting his folks incase they thought badly of her.

They had their differences the two, she was just another normal girl, she didn't strive for the feeling of being well known and was confused that his boyfriend loved the idea of people watching him, she supported him for doing his career, but for her it would be all to much, she lacked confidence that even speaking to a camera would cause her stress. The way her boyfriend seems to be so natural on camera was truly remarkable, and she would never be able to feature in one of his videos, even for a millisecond.

He didn't show her off online, in fact there relationship was privatised, she liked it that way, the world didn't need to engage in a love life they didn't belong in, so they kept their time together away from the screens, he never posted about her, tweeted about her and on every social media account she was private, she liked it that way, the only people knowing her details are the genuine friends and loveable family members that she stayed close with all these years.

He tightly grabbed her hand, trying to give her the boost of confidence she needed. She opened the door, hopping out of the car before walking around to meet him on the other side, he protectively wraps an arm around her, holding her in his grasp letting her know that he wasn't going anywhere.

The walk up the path seemed to drag out as there feet made its way, edging closer to the front of the house. The wooden red painted door created a large echoing sound of Simon's banging knock as they waited for the arrival of his parents to greet them.

The door flung open and her breath hitched, he brung her in closer - if that was event remotely possible -  and rested his chin on her head. They both got greeted by a middle aged woman, a smile present on her face as she ushers the two inside, she opens her arms, giving her exceptionally tall son a hug, her head meeting his chest, the sight of it made her smile, that's what it probably looked like when the couple hugged.

She turns round to face the unfamiliar face in their home, but she was quickly inviting, pulling her into a hug which at first startled her, but she soon settled in and hugged back. She lets go, stepping back to look at Simon's mother, noticing the features that resembled one another, the pair weren't uncanny, but he did have details in his face that he must've inherited from his mother.

The two are usher into the living room, a conversation starting quickly about her, that was the moment she had met his father, an equally as nice man who was welcoming her into their home, his father was so much like Simon in ways, particularly in character, they had the same kind of spirit about them, which sounded weird when she replays the trip back in the head, but she had never been good at describing things.

Their conversation flowed cohesively, being able to input into the talk, not feeling as anxious as she was five hours prior, when the girl wasn't looking at him, Simon found himself smiling gleefully at how his girlfriend had an instant connection to his parents. There wasn't an awkward stop and start, they just managed to keep it going.

A few hours flew by when the door was opened and in came two older men she knew to be his brothers, he had mentioned his older siblings a lot of times, him caring deeply for them, she stood up to introduce herself, they weren't as tall as Simon was, but they still towered over her short figure.

Once again, everything seemed fine, and the day turned into a black sky with twinkling stars, her mind became tired and her eyes started to shut everyone and again, before bent jolted up by a loud noise or a fit of laughter, Simon noticed her drowsy state and he helped her up the stairs to his bedroom, wishing his family a goodnight.

The door opened to a white room, bland and simple, the room was been changed from its original owner, the walls used to be decorated with cds, a small desk with a questionable monitor set up used to lay on it, the same setup the kick started his youtube fame. She had seen what his room looked like previously from footage he had uploaded, the videos that she had watched. She doesn't normally delve into his content, finding it weird to almost stalk her boyfriend, if she watched all his videos, she would know to much about him, how his day has already planned out. She didn't want that.

"I wish you had gotten to see it before it was all taken away," he says, his body falling onto the bed, his back up against the white sheets that looked so desirable right now, she nodded simply, a yawn escaping her lips as she still found herself searching the room, in need of something small that screamed Simon, a reminder that this room once used to be a teenagers bedroom.

"What are you doing?" He asks, observing her as she stayed stationary at the door frame. She snaps out of her seeking session to meet eyes with the blue eyed perfection. "Looking for something that's symbolises that this used to belong to you," she states, walking over to the bed and sitting down, there overnight bag was thrown on the floor upon arrival, their piles of stuff laying within the bag.

"You want a grasp of the old me?" He asks, she nods once again, Simon vanishing for a second, she was to tired to follow him, so she waiting patiently in his bed. He returned a few minutes later, a brown cardboard box in his house labelled with a sharpie as 'simon's box'.

He opened up the box, an array of different stuff filling it, out came old childhood toys and so many CDs and DVDs he had collected over the years, it was an insight to his childhood, and a nostalgic trip for him, they both found old photos of him as a young child, a subject both could laugh at by how his faces he pulled became goofier as they went on.

The girl grew tired as it became later and eventually she fell asleep while Simon was still looking through his things, rambling away to the girl unaware. He finally turned around, asking her a questions when he saw her eyes firmly shut and her mouth parted ever so slightly, light snores coming out.

He climbs in next to her, pulling the blankets over him too before moving closer to the girl, he wraps his arms around her small petite frame, his eyes shutting before drifting away into a nice slumber where he replays today, counting the family meeting as a happy day.
