a couple of days later

"I'm sorry for attempting to harm you with a garlic clove and a chopstick." Juliet said as soon as Ren opened the door.

He stared at her and didn't say anything for a few moments.

"How do you know where i live?" he asked eventually.

"This building belonged to the Williams in the 19th century. After learning that you were a vampire, it wasn't hard to assume the rest." she explained.

"Make her go away." Charlie groaned from somewhere inside of the house. He had single-handedly decided that he was moving back into their old family home despite Ren's objections.

In fact, Charlie had spent the last few days sitting in the living room with a bunch of maps and old archives scattered all around him.

He thought that he could figure out where Eliza was and why she didn't tell him that she was alive any sooner but it proved to be more difficult than expected.

Juliet raised her eyebrow and glanced past Ren to stare at his brother.

"Charlie Williams. Also a vampire i assume?" she questioned. He simply replied with a small grunt.

"So can i come in?"
"You were dumb enough to invite Ren into your house. Are you gonna be dumb enough to waltz into a house with two vampire inside of it? One of which, may i add, doesn't have their humanity on." Charlie questioned, amusement in his tone.

Ren let out a laugh and turned around to glare at him, "Bullshit!"
"What?"
"Look how hooked you are on finding Eliza. Your humanity is definitely on."
"It isn't!"
"Oh it so is, brother."
"I can prove it right now by killing Juliet."
"You'd do that with pure joy with your humanity on. Come on, Charlie."

Charlie rolled his eyes and mumbled something rude as Ren turned back around to face Juliet.

"I have ice cream?" she suggested, holding up a bag from an ice cream a parlour down town.
"Fine, you win. But don't aggravate Charlie, he'll gladly rip your throat out."
"Ouch, noted."

He opened the door wider and couldn't help but smile when Juliet brushed past his shoulder.

"When did you turn?"
"1854, i was like 18 or something."
"Does garlic actually hurt you or is that just a myth?"
"Juliet, come on. Myth."
"What about vervain?"
"Burns our skin and knocks us out if we ingest it. Hurts like a bitch."

"Noted." she nodded, scribbling something down on a small notebook. Ren sighed and ran a hand through his hair.

"Are we done with the interrogation?" he asked, leaning backwards into the arm chair.

"Almost." Juliet muttered, looking over the pages. She glanced up from her book and then back down again.
"I know compulsion is a form of mind control vampires can do but what else is there to it?" she asked.

Ren thought about it for a few moments before shrugging. "Compulsion is a complex thing," he began, playing with the drawstrings on his hoodie, "You can compel humans but not other vampires unless you're an Original bu-"

"Wait," Juliet interrupted, "Did you just say an Original?"
Ren nodded slowly and raised his eyebrow, "Yeah, why?"

"I don't know... It's just that my department doesn't have much information about the Originals so i figured you'd know a thing or two." she said.

He chuckled, "Alright. There are 6 original vampires: Finn, Kol, Elijah, Rebekah, Mikael and Klaus. Klaus is the one you should be afraid of."

"Niklaus the hybrid, right?"
"Mhm. Don't get involved with the Originals. They are ruthless and would do anything f-"
"Has Eliza ever done anything dodgy?" Charlie interrupted, looking up from an old newspaper.

Ren raised his eyebrow and shrugged. "She's your ex, not mine."
"The fuck you mean ex?"
"Nothing. Chill."

Charlie rolled his eyes. "Anyway, i mean maybe the reason she hasn't come back to me is because she got in trouble with the Originals." he said.

"As i was saying, the Originals will do anything for family. If Eliza did something to one of them, she'd have a total of 4 Originals pissed at her." Ren explained.

"4? Shouldn't it be 6 including the one she pissed off?" Juliet asked, looking up from her notebook.

He shook his head, "Finn and Mikael died quite a few years ago."
"But from what i heard, Originals can't be killed. Not completely anyway." she replied.

"There's a mystical weapon or something that does the job, sweetheart." Charlie chimed in, pointing to a picture in an old book of some sort.

"The only thing that can really kill an Original is a stake made of the actual white oak tree used to turn them, while a dagger dipped in the ash of the white oak can place them in a deathlike trance until the dagger is pulled out." he read out, smiling smugly when Ren rolled his eyes.

"A dagger?" Juliet questioned, leaning over to catch a glimpse of the picture in the book.
"Yeah, why?" Charlie replied, raising his eyebrow.

The girl thought it for a few seconds before shaking her head. "Nothing. It's just that it looks really familiar, as if it's a memor-" she paused and sighed, "Nevermind."

He looked at her weirdly for a couple of moments before closing the book. "Alrighty then. I'm going to look online to see whether there has been any animal attacks recently. Have fun you two." said Charlie, standing up.

He was just about out of the door when he muttered 'just don't have too much fun if you know what i mean' which earned him a glare from Ren.

Not that he cared though.
