Bucket List - #82 - "I want to make a dozen cupcakes and use them for a cupcake war."

**If something is in italics it usually means that it is supposed to be stressed or emphasized. It might also mean that it's a mere flashback or memory**

I opened the tiny box that consisted of one cupcake. It was from my Mom since she had leftover treats that she baked for a party. It revealed a red cupcake with a red rose petal decorated ontop of the frosting.

I sighed, tears brimming my eyes. It reminded me so much of Alex. She loved red velvet cupcakes. She would come home with a bagful of them every other week and we would eat them together.

I still can't get over the fact that she's really gone. She's not coming back. She's not going to show up at my doorstep with tears in her eyes begging to come back. She's not going to show up at school with a proud smirk on her face making me want her in my arms again after another one of our huge fights. She's not going to come back.

She'll only be in my memories, but it's not enough. Nothing will be enough again.

        I need her with me.

I need her in my arms.

I need her by my side.

But I will never be able to hold her in my arms again.

I will never be able to hear her gorgeous laugh whenever I say something corny.

I will never be able to say those words that i've been meaning to tell her.

I will never be able to say those three words that might've stopped her from committing suicide.

I will never be able to tell her, "I love you."

They were walking down the sidewalk next to a busy street. The sidewalk was decorated with various shops, cafes, and restuarants. Alex and Ethan were hand in hand, laughing as Ethan said something idiotic. "What! It's true." Ethan said, smiling at his beautiful girlfriend laughing.

"Whatever. Oh hey, it's a cupcake shop! Can we go in?" Alex asked.

"Oh, yeah, sure." Ethan replied, walking up to the door. He pulled it open and let Alex step in before he did. Alex breathed in the aroma of the cupcakes. "They look delicious." She mumbled, walking up to the counter. She looked at the colorful cupcakes through the glass. "Oh, they have red velvet." Alex said, drooling over the red treat.

"How may I help you?" A girl said behind the counter. She looked about Alex's age. Young, beautiful. Alex looked at her and gave a fake smile. Ethan just stood there, jaw open. He never thought he would see her again. "Ethan?" The girl said, tieing the apron behind her back.

"Jamie?" Ethan asked, staring at her. Alex just stood there, uncomfortably. She tried wrapping her eyes around Ethan's waist to get his attention, but it didn't work. "Ethan?" Alex mumbled loud enough for only him to hear.

"Wow, small world, huh?" The girl, Jamie, said. Alex pouted, crossing her arms and glaring at Jamie. Jamie didn't notice because she too was busy staring at Ethan.

"Yeah. Small world. I thought you moved to Paris?"

"I did but it got boring. Plus, I looked like an outcast there. I would get odd stares whenever I would try to order or buy something. It was nice."

"Oh. Well, why are you working here?"

"I need the money and I love baking so I thought, 'Why not?'"

Ethan nodded and smiled as he walked a few steps closer to the counter where his childhood friend, or let's say girlfriend, stood behind. "Ethan?" Alex said, annoyed. Ethan looked back and his eyes widened. "Oh, uh, this is my girflriend, Alex." Ethan said, motioning for Alex to come over. Alex obliged and smiled fakely at Jamie. "Nice to meet you."

"Pleasure is all mine." Jamie replied, giving Alex a fake smile aswell. "Uh, we'll just take two red velvet cupcakes to-go." Ethan said, taking out his cash.

"Don't bother, it's on the house." Jamie said, handing him a box holding two red cupcakes. "Drop by again, won't ya?" Jamie said, batting her eyelashes. Alex just took the box and smiled, "I don't think we will." She said, strutting out the door with Ethan in her grasp.

--

"What the hell was that for?" Ethan growled, snatching his cupcake from the box. "She was obviously flirting with you and you made me look like a fool! I stood there while you were gawking at Jamie." Alex said, taking a bit out of her cupcake.

"You didn't have to be so rude! Especially that last comment of yours! Do you have no shame?" Ethan yelled, causing a few people to stare at the couple.

"Ethan, please calm down-" Alex said but Ethan interrupted her. "Why are you always so clingy and jealous! We are friends, Alex. Friends. I wasn't flirting with her and i'm pretty damn sure she wasn't flirting with me. If I wanted her I would've dumped you when I saw her!"

By now Alex's eyes were brimmed with tears. She quickly wiped them away and grabbed her cupcake and threw it at Ethan's face. "Fine. Dump me. This-This is over. Good luck with that whore, Jamie." Alex said, stomping away.

        "Alex-"

"Go away Ethan! Stay out of my life! I'm just a mistake, right?"

"Please, Alex, I didn't mean it-"

"We're done, Ethan." Alex said, finally turning away and running off. You can hear her sobs grow quieter as she walked away.

All Alex wanted was for Ethan to chase after her, tell her he's sorry and beg for her forgiveness. But he didn't. He just stood there like an idiot. He didn't bother coming after her. Was this what pushed Alex over the edge?

Maybe so, but we'll never know for sure.
