The five of us sat at Pop's, the same way we always do. Archie in between Betty and Veronica, me next to Jughead, the boy who my heart belonged to - he just didn't know it yet.

Only something wasn't the same as it always was.

There was a darkness over us. A darkness that hadn't went away since the night Fred Andrews was shot. The night he was shot in the diner we now sit in.

It was strange being here. We could all feel it. We were all scared. Archie more than the rest of us, it seemed although the murderer was targeting the people he valued most. But we refused to leave his side. We couldn't leave him to deal with this alone.

So now here we sat. In our usual booth in Pop's. Attempting to make conversation despite everything going on.

Betty sat, making conversation with Archie as Veronica listened in. Jughead was listening as well, but I could tell his mind was wandering at the same time.

As for me, I couldn't hear a word they were saying. I was worried about Archie. The dark circles under his eyes had only grown since the night his dad was shot. But I was worried about the rest of us as well. Who knew who'd be next on the murderers hit list? It could be any of us sat here. I knew it was right to stay by Archie's side, but deep down I had this feeling of dread.

I tried my best not to let it show on my face, but being my best friend Jughead could tell it was bothering me. Without being noticed massively by the rest of the group, he placed his arm around me and leant his head down close to mine to whisper in my ear.

"It's all gonna be okay (y/n). We're all gonna be okay."

2 days later we were down by the river. It was a warm day, the five of us relaxing in the sun as we attempted to bring some sort of normality back to our lives.

But any sort of normality we'd managed to grasp was about to be shattered in one quick moment.

As Betty and Veronica left to go get some food from Pop's, Jughead, Archie and I sat against a log enjoying the quiet. As quickly as the quiet had arrived we heard a crack and a rustle come from the bushes and the three of us were on our feet in an instant.

Looking into the woods we saw a figure emerge. A figure with the same hooded mask we'd had described to us so many times. Standing slightly in front of me I could see Archie's face pale, panic taking over.

In that instant, it was as if everything was going in slow motion. The man who shot Fred Andrews, the man who murdered Miss Grundy, standing in front of us raising his gun.

My mind clicked on to who the gun was being raised towards.

Jughead.

I never moved faster than I did in that moment as I screamed, throwing myself in front of Jughead as I heard a bang so deafeningly loud I thought I would never hear again. Opening my eyes I saw the man run back into the woods where he'd came from.

And then the pain took over. My hands flew to my stomach as every nerve in my body screamed with agony. I felt my knees buckle as I fell to the ground, Jughead's arms supporting my fall as Archie ran towards us, phone in hand.

The world around me started to fade to black as I heard Archie on the phone and Jughead's desperate voice.

"Stay with me (y/n). C'mon, stay with me."

Then everything went black.
