      Chapter 4

"Wake up Robert" I nudged his side. We had just pulled in the driveway of our home. I needed to have a motherly conversation with him about Cody. I know he's only 3 years old, but still. He needs to see and spend time with his dad. Robert started to get fussy, so I unbuckled him, myself, and physically picked him up, troting to the front door. I set him down on the couch, as I sat down on the other side. He rubbed his eyes, then looking back at me.

"Where's daddy?" he asked blankly. I swallowed hard, not wanting to tell him the truth. His eyes looked at me with desire, and truth. He laid his small body against the arm of the couch, slowly drifting into a softt doze.

"Why are you so worried about him honey? You have me." I told him, knowing it wasn't enough. His eyes closed slowly, then opened.

"But I love daddy. All my friends have dads, but I don't. Do you love him?" he asked slowly before finally drifting off to sleep. I kissed his forehead, as I picked him up and carried him to his room to nap. He looked so peaceful, yet unhappy, I know he wasnts a dad in his life, but that means Cody, and I just can't deal with him at the moment. But if it makes Robert happy, I'll do it. I quickly pulled out my phone and scrolled thru my contacts to find Cody. I clicked the green button as soon as I saw his name, and waited for him to answer.

"H-Hello?" he asked shocked.

"umm.. Hi" I akwardly stated. This is going to be an akward conversation.

"What's up?"

"Just uh- Can we meet up somewhere or something? We need to talk about some stuff." I got straight to the point. I could him hear shuffling around in the background.

"Yea. That sounds great. I'm just at the studio. How about i meet at starbucks up the street from your house in 10 mintues?" he asked. I turned my head towards Robert's room and nodded my head.

'uh yea. See you there."

"See you soon beautiful. I love you bye."

Did he really just say that. What the crap?

"yea. Whatever.. Bye" I hung up. I called Jake to see if he could come and watch little Robert while I go out with Cody. He only lived a block away from me, so it wouldn't be a problem. As, I waited on Jake to get here, I paced the front door area thinking of a way to approach Cody about the situation. The doorbell rang, interrupting me from my thoughts. I instructed Jake on what to do if there was an emergentcy. I left ad drove off to  meet Cody.

"Over here!" I heard a voice say as I entered Starbucks.I smiled and walked over to Cody.

"So what's the talk about?" he asked, taking a sip of his drink.

"Robert. He's been asking me all these questions lately. It's really making me think." I looked down at me hands.

"Question? What kind of questions?" he asked, his eyes widening

"About why his dad isn't around and why he's not like his friends, who have a dad. It just breaks my  heart every time  I hear the questions." I started to break down. Cody took his big hands, and wrapped them around mine.

"I'm his dad. He has me" he pleaded, this thumb rubbing gently over my fingers.

"He means a-" I tried to say, but got chocked on my tears. Cody just rubbed my fingers, waiting nicely for me to finish.

"A family" I cried. He shook his head and walked over to my side of the table, and kneeled down beside me. He wrapped his arms around waist as I turned to cried into his chest. It felt do good to be held in his arms again.

"Then let's be a family. This time, I promise to treat you right. You and him are my life now. I took it for granted before and larned my lesson. I love you and him so much that it hurts. These past few days have been nothing but you and him. Thats all I've thought about. You and him. Please.. Let's be a real family." he pleaded. His eyes were filled with truth. I could tell he loved Robert by the way he looked at him. I want to be a real family. Do family activities together. Have fun. Love eachother.

"I love you too" I kissed him, answering his question. For the first time in three years, I've been completed. His lips moved with mine. I've missed those lips so much. We're a family. He held my hand as we walked at the door of Starbucks.

"I love you." he smiled, stopping us from walking. He walked infront of me, still holding my hand.

"I love you too" I replied, as he kissed me on the sidewalk. This is a perfect moment, or was until we pulled away from the kiss and saw someone.....
