one day earlier
"kay, where is everyone?" rowan's voice was lilting, soft, confused as she looked around the beach. neither girl was dressed up, and she was confused as to why no one was here or why the scene looked like something from a movie. there was dinner on a picnic blanket, fairy lights contrasting the sunset, and the sea as their noise and backdrop. but rowan didn't understand at all what was going on.
"kay?" she turned, not seeing her girlfriend and getting a bit worried. "kay, what's going on?"
"row, over here." she turned to see her girlfriend on one knee, looking a bit disheveled as the wind rushed by her.
"kay, what are you-"
"rowan eleanor blanchard, I have been head over heels for you since the day we met. it's not something I was proud to admit at first, because I couldn't even accept who I was. but you, you've always been this beautiful, confident girl. you confronted me when I couldn't think straight enough to admit how much I loved you. and I do, row. I love you so much it hurts. and I can't just sit here, with you looking so beautiful, being everything i've ever wanted, and do nothing. rowan, will you do me the honor of marrying me? i know we're young, i know it won't be right now, but... i needed to ask."
kaylani looked up, finally, to see tears in her girlfriend's eyes. "hey, row, don't cry. it's alright." her voice and eyes were soft, watching rowan closely.
"I know it is. I love you so much, kay. of course, i'll marry you." rowan smiled widely, throwing her arms around kay. kay grinned back at her, careful to slip the ring on her finger.
"we're getting married," kay whispered.
"yeah, we're getting married," rowan replied.
