Song to listen to while reading:

Bed Peace - Jhené Aiko

Cheyenne

"Shy!" Cadence yelled, jumping on my bed to wake me up.

"What baby?" I groaned, rolling over.

"Daddy had to leave quick, so he said 'bye and love you'" he smiled.

"Mmhmm. And where did Daddy say he was going?"

"He said that he was going to work to 'straighten things out' emphasis on the straighten." He laughed.

I knew that "straighten things out" was code for someone not paying up and getting their face "straightened out".

(By the way, if you didn't catch that, "Daddy" is Alex. He's the only father figure that Cadence has ever had.)

It's sick I know, but it's what we have to do to keep this business afloat. We can't go around giving everyone the benefit of the doubt.

"How about I make you your favorite? Apple Cinnamon pancakes?" I said, getting up.

"No thanks. I already had cereal and I've got to catch the bus. Bye shy!" He said, kissing my cheek and running out with his bag.

I checked the time, and it was 9:50. Shit! I thought. I'm going to be late to brunch with the wives of the higher-ups of our business.

But, then again, I'm the highest that anyone can get in this business, their husbands are just in charge of certain districts.

As I was checking the mail, I noticed my mothers name, but an unknown address.
