Chapter 14: The final battle

"I don't care how dangerous you say these people are. I don't want any part of this" Luke said, finally speaking up.
"We're here to get Danny, but Colleen's right, this won't end there. The Hand will keep coming after us. This is our chance to shut 'em down for good" Daredevil pointed out. Spider-Man groaned.
"I get it might be the only play we have but.... I REALLY don't like this. Say the building doesn't fall into the hole like the architect wanted, suddenly we are responsible for people's death" Spider-Man argued.
"There is no way this move can fail. Besides, they will come back. Again and again. But these could end them forever." Colleen retorted.
"I get that you have a history with these people..." Luke started to say before Daredevil cut him off.
"So do you now. So does she. (Daredevil pointed at Colleen) And so did that kid from Harlem." Daredevil reminded Luke.
"Detonating a bomb here won't fix what happened to him. Ok? Not by a long shot." Luke pointed out. Daredevil nodded in agreement.
"No, but it might help everyone else who will be in danger" Daredevil responded.
"And make no mistake, people will be in danger" Colleen added. Luke took a deep breath.
"I..." Luke started to say but sighed.
"I'm not sure I can go along with this either" Spider-Man said, understanding the conflict within Luke.
"Ok. For the record everything that's been said in the past 2 minutes is 100% insane" Claire said.
"Thank you" Luke told her. Claire looked at Luke and Spider-Man.
"But..." Claire started.
"Sweet Sister" Luke whispered in disappointment. (His other catchphrase in the MCU besides Sweet Christmas~ Sage)
"... we all know what the Hand is capable of. We've all been affected. But they keep coming back, and when they do, it's not just crime, it's horror movie murdery shit" Claire explained. Spider-Man nodded. He felt torn about what to do... he HATED this idea... but what other choice was there?
"If we don't do this, it's gonna get worse." Daredevil added.
"Take down the building or the Hand takes down New York" Colleen said, reminding everyone of the stakes.
"This is not how I fix things" Luke replied. Finally Jessica decided to speak up.
"These people have come after our friends. They're showing no signs of stopping." Jessica pointed out. Luke looked at Jessica in shock and disappointment.
"Jess!" Luke said.
"I HATE this idea too Luke. But... it might be the only play after all. I objected it with you and tried to think of another way... but there isn't one. Not one that will come in time to save New York" Spider-Man said with a sigh.
"Pete!" Luke said.
"Look, you know I've wanted nothing to do with this from the beginning. The architech's brains are still in my apartment. I haven't changed my clothes. Let's just get this shit over with." Jessica replied. Colleen nodded.
"We'll all sleep easier once they're gone. We can all just... get on with our lives." Jessica said afterwards with desperation.
"If we do this... no one but those... Hand monsters gets hurt. Ok? Not one single innocent person. Can we all agree to that?" Luke asked.
"Can you ensure... for a fact that no one outside the Hand is caught in this?" Spider-Man added, wanting to know how confident Daredevil and Colleen was in this plan. Colleen nodded.
"Yep" Daredevil said.
"Ok then. Can't believe I'm saying this but... let's go do something crazy." Luke said, accepting the plan.
"Peter, you good?" Jessica asked. Spider-Man nodded.
"Yeah. Let's finish this" Spider-Man answered.

Collen set the blueprints Peter, Matt, and Jessica found at the architech's house on a work desk nearby and Daredevil began to speak.
"From what we could tell, the architech's plan was to place explosives in the building's structual center." Daredevil said.
"I mean, these look like support beams, so without them the building can't stand. Once we find these, we plant the C-4." Colleen replied pointing at certain points of the blueprints.
"No remote detonator" Luke announced. Spider-Man sighed.
"Wait, what does that mean?" Claire asked.
"It's a time bomb. Once you hit 'go', you've got a matter of minutes." Luke answered.
"Are you sure about that?" Claire asked feeling uneasy.
"Luke's right. Karen, my suit AI Mr. Stark, programmed for me just scanned the explosives. It's a time bomb all right. Which means we'll need to get out quickly or we'll be killed as well" Spider-Man explained. Daredevil flinched hearing the name 'Karen'.
"Yeah, I was trained to run from bombs, not set 'em" Luke added, not noticing Matt's flinch.
"So what you guys are saying is once someone activates the charge..." Colleen started to ask but was unable to bring herself to say the rest of the words.
"That's it" Luke confirmed. Daredevil pointed at Claire and Colleen.
"You two put 'em in place. Once we're out of the hole, hit the charge and get out" Daredevil told Claire and Colleen.
"Wait what? No I am going down with you. Last time I stayed behind, Danny got drugged and kidnapped." Colleen said.
"What part of this shitstorm sounds like staying behind?" Jessica asked.
"This shitstorm is my life" Colleen replied.
"Colleen, the 4 of them have certain abilities...." Claire started to say before she was cut off by Colleen.
"I can fight" Colleen argued.
"Exactly. I'm saying, as your friend, if I'm going to do this, I need your help a lot more than they do." Claire replied. Colleen stopped to consider that point.
"Promise me that you won't fail him again" Colleen said.
"I'll save him. Even if it cost my life... Danny will come back to you." Spider-Man promised.
"I'll make it right. I owe him that much." Luke added. The group then heard police sirens in the distance.
"This way" Daredevil called to the other Defenders. Spider-Man and Jessica followed Daredevil while Luke said some quick words to Claire before following the others.
