Colored Storms

With the rain pouring down
Plummeting to the ground
There's nothing that's heavier
Than the water on my back
Nothing pulls me down further
Than the ocean spiraling in
And nothing I find harder
Than asking for more air

With the wind whirring in
Pushing back my skin
I'm an exposed skeleton
And the only sound to hear
Is the screaming in my ears
And breath is far from near
But I find nothing harder
Than flipping the off switch

Yet running from the screams
Leaves nothing but the storms
And without the rain
There's room for suffocation
And when I ask for air
I'm told to get out of the water
And when I ask for calm
I'm told to look to peaceful waters

As if a thing existed here for me

But once the storm starts calming
The rain is a light drizzle
The sun begins to warm me
And I feel my lungs heal
Although some breaths are heavy
They're lighter than before
And I'm glad to have the sun here
For I know it fought to be near

Then as the winds start slowing
My ears begin tingling
The silence fills my brain
And relief floods my skin
My muscles loosen
And my fears lessen
And I find I'm glad we're free
Without fear or dulling pain

For now the storm will end
And colors will flood in
And we'll be okay again
No matter where the rainbow goes
Your storm provides the colors
I couldn't live without
For there would be no joy
If you were only just a drought

So I'm existing here for you
