Blackbird

Blackbird singing in the dead of night;

no one wants to listen

as she cries.

One day she flies

into the only fowl

who knows just what it's like.

Living in a cage

seems harder when you're free;

impossible to sit all day

and warble comfortably.

And a cracked window would always sting

no matter how much you sing

because the fresh air would brush

against her broken wings.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night;

what if someone heard her

when she lies

alone at night?

It would only hurt them

so she tries to make it quiet.

She can't know why the fowl left,

just up and flew away.

And now she's left

alone and trapped

inside her empty cage.

She blames herself for all the pain;

to just let go

would ease her mind.

But could it ever

heal her heart

and fix her self esteem?

Blackbird singing in the dead of night;

take her heart away

and she could die,

so she'll deny

this feeling in her heart

that something's broken.

No I'm not.
