No no no no no, this can't be happening.
This is bad, this is bad, this is... So bad.
We're f!@#ed up bad, it's a mess and I-
"Elliot! Snap out of it and think of a way to solve this!" Darlene snaps her fingers near my ears and I jerk back at the sudden deafening noise.
I look to the computer screen again, a few lines of code stood out from the rest.
>Internet Connection unavailable
>Check nearby router settings
>SIGNAL NOT AVAILABLE
"Th-This isn't... But there were signal bars previously right?!" I ask and she nods with distress on every inch of her face.
Shit shit SHIT!
"Elliot... No internet means no way to solve this issue-"
"No, there has to be a way!" I argue a little loudly, running a hand through my hair, "There... There has to be a way to solve this."
"How the hell do you think we'll get into the systems blasting the world with their crap code huh?!" Darlene exclaims and I look at her with sadness.
"We... We have to-"
Wait a minute.
"Son of a bitch..." I mumble and Jayden places a hand on my arm. "Eli what is it?" She questions as I walk ahead.
I turn around and face them, a smile growing wide on my lips. "The main servers across the city, the powerhouse that controls the internet for this region!" I say, feeling a sense of victory wash over me.
"Elliot, YOU'RE BRILLIANT!" Jayden expresses, "We just need to get the original source back online so that we have access to getting rid of these assholes!"
She runs to me and hugs me tightly. The sudden force pushes me back, I smile lightly and hug her back. I notice Darlene looking at us with confusion and irritation.
"We can write a program to override the actual admin control, so that we have access to everything," She says into my ears and I grin.
Jayden... She's interesting. She stands out and I don't think I've ever come across someone like her.
"Lets get to work then. To the other side of the city!" I say and walk to a desktop computer.
*****
"Are you sure you don't want me to come?" Darlene asks and I nod my head. "Jayden and I will be enough to get it up and working," I tell her, "Those long-distance industrial walkie-talkies should be good enough for communicating."
My sister agrees then says, "We'll stay outside to get a better signal." I place my laptop into my backpack along with its charger. There's no use for a phone, they wouldn't work. I keep some extra connecting cables and a USB with a large capacity just in case.
"I've got things to munch on Eli!" Jayden skips into the room with a grin on her face as she places the granola and chocolate bars, cookies, canned beans and corn, and a can opener on the table.
I smile slightly, examining all the packets of food stacked on the table. "You're going to carry all this... not me," I clarify and she rolls her eyes, sighing.
Jayden starts stuffing the food and drink supplies into her back-pack while Darlene helps to gather some extra shirts and jackets for us to change into if we want. It's going to be a long walk to the servers, with no transport functioning.
