chapter twenty four

"And here is where I got lost when I was like 9,"

I laughed, looking around at Taylor's hometown as we walked down the streets together.

"How'd you get lost?"

He looked down with a chuckle.

"Well I was with my brother, and at that age I hadn't explored much of Princeton other than my neighborhood and the area surrounding my school," He began.

"So when my brother decided to race me home.."

"Oh god," I laughed, knowing where this story was going.

"Yeah, he was also nearly 16 and knew the place better than I did, I think he did it on purpose sometimes," Taylor reminisced.

We were now heading back towards his house, but we stopped outside.

"You know how I love road trips?" He said, a smile coming onto his face. I looked at his two cars that he had in the driveway.

"Yes,"

"Do you wanna go on one?"

I had no clue where we were when Taylor pulled into a gas station in the middle of no where, going in to get an energy drink to keep him from falling asleep while driving. I decided to check my map to find our location at the moment, curious as to how far we've driven and how long we've been driving for. We were in Versailles, Missouri, which meant we had been driving for 6 hours, still without a destination.

"Taylor where are we going?" I asked as he handed me a chocolate bar.

"Not sure," he shrugged, pressing the gas and heading towards the on ramp.

"Are we just going to wind up somewhere random and chill there?" I questioned, looking at the other vehicles currently on the road. Most were big rigs with license plates ranging from Virginia to even California.

"Yep, I get these feelings about certain places sometimes,"

"Like?"

He laughed at the amount of questions I had but I was curious.

"When I was 16, I took my parent's car and drove up to Watseka in Illinois, I got in so much shit because I didn't even have my license yet then, but it was beautiful there," he told me.

"And did you not get arrested?"

"Oh I did, my parents reported it stolen," He laughed, and it was a very genuine laugh, which made me happy. I felt myself start to doze off, but this wasn't too comfortable.

"Tay I'm going to sleep," I murmured, unbuckling my seatbelt and preparing to climb into the backseat.

"Take your shoes off before you climb on anything,"

He took this car thing too seriously.

I took my shoes off and left them on the floor of the passenger seat before making my way into the back of the rover. I relaxed on the cool leather seats, part of me feeling anxious on what our whereabouts would be when I awoke.

I woke up in the morning when the car halted to a stop. The sun was shining through the windows of the car and I looked outside to look for a glimpse of where we could be. We were at a gas station, again, but I didn't know where. I turned on my phone that I had shut off in order to save battery, even though Taylor had brought a charger. I checked the map once again to see where we were.

Kanorado, Kansas is a small town near the border of Colorado... And that is where we currently were.

The door opened and I heard Taylor sigh.
