chapter fourteen

San Diego

"This is so awesome!" Cameron grinned, staring out of the window at our view.

The weather here was amazing, more how I expected it to be.

I put my hair into a ponytail, and it as still long enough to go down to my back so I felt fine with it. I had on a lace shirt, jean shorts, and converse. Matt brought an extra penny board for me and we waited in the lobby for Nash and Taylor to come down.

It was sunset now, so not many people were out where we went.

"I haven't really done this before," I admitted as we got to the beach.

"I can teach you," Cameron offered.

"Okay."

He grabbed my hands as I stood on the board. It wobbled a little and I nearly fell, but Cameron didn't let me.

I looked over at Nash who was sitting on the cement wall, looking over at the water with his board on his lap. I knew he had a crush on me but I wasn't sure how I felt about him.

Then there's Taylor, who is standing on his penny board and typing away at his phone.

I knew I wasn't over him yet.

"I think I have it." I told Cameron. He grinned and we all started down the street.

The breeze was amazing, the adrenaline rush reminding me of that night in DC with Taylor.

I miss Taylor.

We went off into the street and suddenly I heard Taylor scream my name before I was pushed to the ground.

I slid a couple feet, my elbow getting scraped.

"Shit!" Jack G yelled, running over to Taylor. A man stepped out of his car and I tried to process what happened. Nash grabbed my hand and pulled me up.

"Are you okay?" He asked, looking into my eyes.

"I'm fine." I responded, turning to see Taylor on the ground, and Cameron and Jack J arguing with the man who was driving. There were sirens in the distance and I felt my heart begin to crumble as I realized that Taylor was unconscious.

"Taylor..?" I whispered, kneeling beside him and shaking his body lightly. I repeated myself, raising my voice this time.

"If you kids hadn't been in the street this wouldn't have happened! Who's going to pay for this dent?!" The man ranted.

"Shut up!" I screamed, causing the man to look down at us as the ambulance came to a halt.

I backed away and they lifted Taylor up onto the gurney, giving him an oxygen mask.

He jumped in front of a car for me. He did still care.

"Only immediate family allowed in the vehicle," the paramedic told us.

We looked around at each other before running as fast as we could to the hotel.

My hair was sticking to the tears that rolled down my cheeks as we stopped at the car, each of us climbing in. Cameron started the car, nearly tipping it over with the speed of his turn.

"It should've been me," I mumbled, tears pouring faster than I ever thought possible.

"No it shouldn't have." Nash said.

I knew he was saying that to make me feel better but it really should've been me.

"Where is Taylor Caniff located?" Bart asked. The woman typed in a few things before standing.
