"Come on, Jason. We have to get going before the plane leaves." I said. We were sitting in the airport ready to leave home and return to the base.
Jason was getting his food when the announcement came on telling us the gate would close in less then ten minutes.
I was standing next to him with our bags in hand. The lady begin the counter smiled and batted her eyelashes at him and she gave him his food.
"Have a great day." she said sweetly.
"Thanks. You, too." he said oblivious to the girl. Taking a bite from his turkey sandwich, he turned around to face me. "What?" he asked, a mouth full turkey and whole wheat in his mouth.
I lifted my eyebrow.
"Really?" I said.
"What?!" He said louder, picking up his bag.
I chuckled and shook my head.
"Nothing. Come on we have to go. I don't want to miss the flight." I turned and quickly walked towards the gate.
Saying that we were brothers would be an understatement. We don't look alike and we have different parents. Jason and I knew each other since high school and we became instant friends. We acted like brothers and we do anything that brothers would do. Even pranking people and each other, always trying to get the upper hand.
I nodded at the lady standing next to the gate and quickly went inside and boarded the plane with Jason right behind me licking his lips.
"Was it good?" I asked sitting near the window with the bag, full of clothes, between my legs on the floor. He did the same nodding his head.
"Yeah, it was okay. The food at the base is better though."
"I bet."
We always looked up for one another. We never let anyone pick on us or other people. We were well respected at school. We were popular, but we never looked down on other people like the jocks and the cheer squad.
We lived in a small town, so everybody knew who we were. We were well liked, never causing any problem and never picking fights unless it was to protect the innocent.
A couple hours later we landed and got off the plane, quickly getting out of the airport and into the truck that was waiting for us.
Once we got in the back seat the Colonel turned around in the passenger seat and faced us, as the Lieutenant turned the key and the engine roared to life.
"The Sergeant wants you guys in his office when we get back. He says it's important and that you need to hurry." The Colonel said turning in his seat.
"Do you know what's it about?" I asked, Jason and I exchanging worried looks.
"No. He just said that you guys need to be there." he said.
"Yes, sir." we both said.
As soon as we entered the building, we went straight to the Sergeants office. We knocked on the door waiting for a reply, our bags in hand.
"Come in." a voice said a second later.
We opened the door and stepped into the room. We put our bags by the door and stood at attention in front his desk. He stood up and directed his attention towards us.
