"What do you mean 'there's a war coming'?" Sergeant Wood asked, annoyance completely out of his voice.

"Exactly what he said, Sir." Mariah cuts in, standing besides me. "Lieutenant Erik Jones wants to declare war on the U.S. government."

"How do you know that he is planning to attack the government?"

By now, everyone had their eyes on us.

"The Afghanistan's that attacked Lieutenant Hertz, they were put down in the cells. Lieutenant Wolfe and I went to go down to interrogate them and found out that Lieutenant Jones has been recruiting Afghanistan's to take down the government." she explained.

The room fell silent. You can see the question form in his eyes before he spoke them.

"The two Afghanistan's that we captured never wanted to be apart of this war. They told us that they did it because they wanted to help their family. They are acting like spies to get all the information we need to get to Jones." I answered his unasked question.

"How do you know that you can trust them?" he asked.

"We don't." I answered honestly. "But it's our only way to get to Jones and what he's planning to do. Sir."

He was silent for a moment, just staring at me.

"Do you trust them, Lieutenant?"

Do I trust them? For all we know, they can be lying to us about the information. But deep down, there's a feeling in my gut that I do trust them.

"Yes. I do trust them." I confirmed.

He nodded.

"Well. If you're sure that there will be a war. I will go to the states and tell the president and the army about the situation."

"Thank you, Sir." I nodded.

"But, Lieutenant."

"Yes, Sir?" I lifted my head at the firmness in his voice.

He sighed. "I hope your right."

With that, he walked out, leaving us to the new recruits.

We told them about Mendoza and Ali and what our situation is.
They were quiet the entire time Mariah explained.

"What is your plan, Lieutenant?" Lieutenant Black asked.

"For now, I want you guys on patrol and act like everything's fine. If you see anything suspicious, report it to Lieutenant Wolfe, Lieutenant Hertz or I." she nodded towards us.

Chris, Drew, Peter and Kyle were grabbing their guns or helmets, ready to walk out.

Jason, to my protest, got up from his cot to get ready.

"Okay, before you guys ask anymore questions, we need to figure out what shift your will be patrolling. Did you guys receive any papers that will tell you who you'll be patrolling with?" I asked, sitting up in my cot.

When the Sergeant left, Zach, Liam, and I all went to out cots. Mariah, however, stood in front of the Lieutenants and told them the mission.

Lieutenant Black shook his head. "No. He told us that when we get here, we can decide who we can go with."

I nodded.

"Okay." I looked at Jason. "Do you need any more guys with you?"

He shook his head.

"We can use a couple of them if we need to. Though, there is more activity and if they're disappearing like what Drew said, then we need at least two more."

"Perfect." I turned my attention to the new recruits. "Two of you will be patrolling with Lieutenant Hertz and his team, the rest of you will be patrolling at night. You guys figure out who is doing what and then we'll go from there."

"But please hurry. The citizens will be awake pretty soon and I want you guys out there before they do." Mariah said, heading to her cot where Dante was laying.

It took them a couple minutes before they decided that Lieutenants Cooper and Weber were going to go with Jason.

"Okay, Lieutenants." I said to Spencer, Tyler and Mark. "Find your cot and get some sleep. I need you guys to be on your guard."

They nodded and went to the cots, opposite of Mariah and I, as I leaned back and closed my eyes.

It's going to be a long night.
