"I don't want to keep you for long." the Sergeant started out. "We have most of our soldiers going to the White House. It's going on lockdown and luckily the citizens don't know what's going on yet." he pulls out a white projector and turns it on.
"Are there any sightings of Lieutenant Jones?" I asked as we waited for the projector to warm up.
"No. He disappeared before we realized he was gone." Sergeant Hickens explained.
I nodded. The projector screen turned blue before Sergeant Giles clicked another button on his laptop and the White House blurred back to the blue-prints.
"We have agents at every entry, including the windows. The President has a dozen agents around him. When the soldiers get there, they will be around the White House perimeter." Sergeant Wood started to explain as he pointed at the blue-print. "There will be snipers on the buildings and in the bushes. They won't set foot in the building." he pointed at the spots where the soldiers will be.
"What would you like us to do, Sir?" Spencer asked.
"I want half of you to go to the White House and prepare the agents and other soldiers for an attack. The rest of you need to stay here and help other skiers prepare the vehicles. That includes the helicopters." he explained further. "Do you guys have something to say?" he asked Sergeant Hickens and Sergeant Giles.
They shook their heads.
"You covered most of it." Sergeant Giles said.
Sergeant Wood nodded and looked back at us.
"You guys are dismissed. Find out who's going to the White House and hurry. We are running out of time."
"Yes, Sir!" we all said at once and filled out, me being in the back.
"Lieutenant Wolfe." I heard Sergeant Hickens call. I stopped and turned to face him.
"Yes, Sergeant?" the last of the soldiers walked out, leaving me with the Sergeants.
"I know you want to go to the White House and help the agents and other soldiers." I nodded, letting him know that he was right. "But I want you to stay here and help the other units. They could use someone like you."
"But, Sergeant Hickens, I need to be there with my team at the White House. I can't stand here while they are over there, risking their lives without me." I know what I said would have them yelling at me, but what I said was true. I have to go with them to ensure their safety.
"My decision is made, Lieutenant." he said with a warning in his voice.
"But-"
"Lieutenant!" he projected his voice, letting me know the he was done with this conversation.
I sighed and lowered my head in respect. Like a wolf submitting to his alpha.
"Yes, Sergeant." with that, I walked out of the tent only to come face to face with my team. They stared at me, waiting for me to tell them what they are going to do. No doubt they heard the Sergeant's and I's disagreement. "I have to go to the infirmary and fill in Jason an Mariah. You guys decide on who stays here and who goes to the White House."
"I'm going with you to the hospital." Peter announced and the rest of the team nodded their head. I knew they weren't going to back down and I wasn't in the mood to argue.
I nodded my head and started walking towards the infirmary with my team behind me.
The hospital wasn't the same as the rest of the buildings, mostly because the hospital was a brick building with a window for each room. It was a one story and it wasn't very big; but it sticks out like a sore thumb if you flew over the base.
Why they've decided to make the hospital a brick building instead of a large tent like the rest of the base was beyond me. An enemy could easily pick it out and bomb it.
When we entered, I asked one of the nurses, that was passing by where they had Jason and Mariah. After getting the directions to their room, my team and I immediately headed there.
"Any news?" Jason asked once we entered the room. There with him was Mariah and Dante, who were having bandages wrapped around them by a team of nurses.
"Yeah. Sergeant Wood wants us to split up. Some of us goes to the Capitol and the rest of us stays here." Drew said, coming out from behind me.
"Did he say who was going to the Capitol?" Mariah asked, looking at me.
"No." I shook my head. "He left that decision to me."
"Have you decided on who's staying and who's going?" she asked.
I nodded and stepped to the side to let the nurses out.
"I want you, Zach, Drew, Kyle, Ryan, Mark, and Nick to go to the Capitol while the rest of us stay here. Sergeant Wood wants us to help the other soldiers to get ready for this battle." I told them.
"When do we leave?" Mariah asked, standing up and Jason followed her lead.
"We can leave now. But that's if your ready."
She looked at me in the eye.
"I'm always ready."
I nodded at her.
"Good."
