"Sergeant Wood." Mariah gasped. "What a surprise."

"Yes." he turned his attention to her. "I just wanted to drop by to see what my Lieutenants are doing." he looked around until he Jason, sitting on his cot with his back pressed against the tent wall.

"Sir. If you don't mind me asking, when did you get here?" I asked.

He turned to me.

"Just a couple minutes ago."

I nodded.

"In fact," he continued. "I brought more Lieutenants to help you with your shifts. I've heard that you guys need more people with the runs. They will be arriving here shortly."

"But, Sir-" Mariah started only to be interrupted by the Sergeant, who turned his attention to Jason.

"What happened, Lieutenant?" he said with softness in husband voice.

Jason looked up in shock.

"Um... Uh... I was attacked by a group of Afghanistan's when I was patrolling the streets. Sir."

"Are you alright?"

"Yes, Sir. I'll be fine."

"When will you be able to get back in the game?"

"I can be ready if need be, Sir." Jason said with confidence.

Sergeant Wood nodded.

"That's good. Cuz I need all of you to help each other train these new recruits." he said looking at us.

"Sergeant, if I may, I need to speak to you about something important." I said, trying to get his attention.

"Just a minute, Lieutenant. The new recruits will be arriving here at any second."

As soon as he was done speaking, the flap to the tent was lifted and in came five soldiers with bags in one hand and their rifles in the other.

My guard immediately went up.

I'm not usually good with new people, especially if I don't know them.

They didn't look bad, but just didn't see any of them before and what's going on right now, I don't think I can trust anybody right now.

"Lieutenant Buchmann," Sergeant Wood said, walking past Mariah and I to the other Lieutenants. "This is Lieutenant Nick Black," he pointed at the first soldier. He was tall and had sandy blonde hair that matched his green eyes.

"Lieutenant Mark Cooper." he pointed at the Lieutenant who had dark hair with dark brown eyes.

"Lieutenant Tyler Whitetail." he nodded towards the Lieutenant, who stood besides Mark. He had brown hair with grey eyes.

"Lieutenant Spencer Grant." he had blonde hair and light brown eyes.

"And finally, Lieutenant Ryan Weber." he had brown hair and pale green eyes.

They were all about the same height. They had a certain vibe that says, 'I'm intimidating but I'm also new'.

Sergeant Wood looked at us and introduced us to them. When he said our names, we all but nodded or heads in respect and acknowledgement.

"This is the best team that I have ever worked with." he said looking back the new recruits. "So I can assure you that you will be in safe hands." he looks at Mariah and motioned for her to take it from here.

She nodded her head.

"Right this way Lieutenants." she said motioning for them to follow her deeper into the tent.

"Sergeant. I need to speak with you." I said. "It's urgent."

At the statement, the Sergeant looked at me with an annoyed expression.

"What is it, Lieutenant?"

I looked around and, even though my squad knows what's happening, I didn't want the new recruits hearing until I get the Sergeant's say.

"Sir, I need to speak to you in private."

"If it's important, Lieutenant. I think it would be best if your team, and the new recruits, knows what's on your mind."

I let out an aggravated sigh mentally.

I don't have time for arguing. War is approaching fast and I need to let him know.

"Sir, there's a war coming."
