Epilogue
Brenda~ 8 years later
The sound of the loud crowd made me smile widely. I slowly walked up to the stage, and stood in front of the podium. I looked to my right, and saw my brothers sitting in the first row. They smiled widely too, and gave me thumbs up. I glanced over the crowd and saw some of my friends- from college and high school. Then I looked over and saw the woman that made everything better. The one who had been a Mom to me through my hard moments of life.
"Everyone," Someone announced loudly, and the crowd silenced, "Ms. Brenda Waters." Before I could even say anything, the crowd erupted again with loud applause.
"Thank you, thank you," I said into the microphone over the loud crowd. They quieted again. I looked behind me, and saw my books lined up on a table. "I am here today," I started, "Only to sign books, but before I do, I would like to say something."
I bit down hard on my bottom lip. "This book is mostly about the relationship between a girl and a teacher," I sighed, "It's an autobiography- though I changed a few of the names- but I want all to remember that even if you feel alone," I looked out at the audience and smiled at Mrs. Rose, "You are never alone. There is always someone there to help you out. Don't ever doubt the power of family and friends. I doubted it, and suffered severely."
Keera smiled up at me with tears in her eyes. She held a newborn baby in her lap, which hardly ever seemed to cry. Joe put his arm around me and gave me a thumbs up.
"I want to get my message out," I said clearly, "Because if I don't, all of the girls- and maybe boys- who are anorexic, to always feel lonely. Because the truth is, they will never be lonely if they look hard enough. You'll be surprised at what you find."
I sighed and looked at Mrs. Rose. She had two little girls now. It was a miracle, and because she was a young teacher, students were extremely excited for her. Mr. Rose, smiled up at me, and winked, holding his squirming little girl in his lap. I got to know Mr. Rose better with time, because I was always stealing his wife away from him.
"There are always friends," I whispered into the microphone. I looked at my friends. "Family." I looked at my brothers and their girlfriends. "And those who you never would have thought were there to help."
I smiled widely at Mrs. Rose, and she smiled back at me with tears in her eyes. "But I guess you all probably know that," I mumbled, because tears had over taken my eyes too, "You probably already read the book and just want me to sign it already so you can go home. I promise I will sign your books, and anyone who would like to buy another one, there are plenty extras."
I held up my book- Saving my life- and let tears fall down my eyes freely. "Before I do though," I sniffled. "There is one woman I'd like to thank."
Mrs. Rose gently shook her head, saying she didn't need to be acknowledged, but I really needed everyone to know that she was my inspiration and needed to be acknowledged. "Without this woman," I cried, "I don't know how I would have carried on after I was out of the hospital. She came a visited me, at lunch with, and told me over and over again that I was loved. I wasn't being spoiled, I was just in complete doubt of myself, and this one woman stayed by me the whole way."
I wiped the tears away from my eyes. "Yes I had my brothers and friends," I shrugged, "But she was the inspiration of this book and was the one who got me to write, along with my first editor."
Everyone looked around, like they had no clue who it was. I smiled a small smile. "Mrs. Colleen Rose, could you please stand up?" I asked. Mrs. Rose looked hesitant, but I added, "Please?"
Mrs. Rose stood her youngest daughter up, and then stood up herself. She gave a small smile, and then tried to sit down. "Wait," I called, "I have one thing to say." Mrs. Rose looked at me weirdly, but stayed standing. "Mrs. Rose," I whispered, "If you didn't care enough to look after me, I would have been dead. So all I can say is thanks because I'll never be able to repay you."
"Brenda," She sighed, but was interrupted by a round of applause. She was shocked at first, but then smiled. Daryl stood up, followed by Dunkin and Chester, and then everyone stood up. Giving Mrs. Rose a standing ovation. I stood back from the microphone, and clapped for Mrs. Rose too.
She blushed and held tightly to her child's hand, but she deserved it. She had made my life better. I now had a better relationship with my brothers. We talked all the time, and joked around- but in the good way.
I continued to stay friends with most of my high school friends and became friends with different kids in college. Joe and Kristy were married and had a little boy. Keera was still my best friend, and I was in her wedding.
Best of all though, after the miracle of both of Mrs. Rose's daughter's birth- she allowed me to call her Colleen now, but if didn't always feel right- she asked me to be the godmother of both of her little girls- Melanie and Brenda. I was the only one Mrs. Rose loved enough to ask. Her mother had died- which had been sad- but she was still willing to let me be their godmothers. They called me Aunt Brownie.
The most important thing though, was no one called me fat again. I'm sure my brothers would kill them if they did, but no one ever called me fat. Why? Because I wasn't fat, I never had been.
