The school wasn't far away so she would be there on time for the first class,but she wanted to find the time to catch up with Sam.She hadn't seen her best friend for the whole summer and she had so much to tell her.
She was walking quickly by the main street,but as she passed by the old mansion it caught her attention.Since she remembered herself,no one lived there.It was at terrible condition but all summer workers were repairing it day and night to restore its former glory.Indeed it was beautiful.She also learned that some people were already living there.Nobody had seen them around the town,and Alex could not hold the thought that there was something strange about them.Especially since everything she had found out recently,that thought became even more intense.
Alex stopped for a while to admire the house,when the door suddenly opened and a young man at her age came out with brown hair falling in front of his eyes.He was wearing jeans and a black t-shirt that pointed out his well-built body.He had his school bag on his shoulder and was holding a casework in his hand with his guitar in it.Before he got to close the door,a dog came out running.A german shepherd runned happily straight towards Alex.This was a very pleasant surpise since she loved dogs.They were playing,but with the corner of her eye she was observing him.
-Scar,inside!,he said with a loud voice,and a smile that he was trying very skillfully to hide.
She really liked his voice.It was raspy,without being heavy or unpleasant.Scar complained for a while but he obeyed and went inside the house.Alex was ready to leave when something really unexpected for her happened.
-Good morning,I'm Brandon,the young man said,clearly smiling this time.
His smile was broad,making you feel like your stomach was a knot.At least that's what Alex felt.
-Good morning!,she answered surprised.-I'm Alexandra...emm...Alex,if you prefer.
The last thing she expected was him to talk to her.He was still standing at the front door's step and she was a few meters away at the sidewalk.
-I'm sorry about Scar...he's usually not that friendly.I don't know what got into him,he said touching his hair nervously .
-Oh,don't worry,it doesn't matter at all.He is a sweetheart,Alex answered,trying to play it cool,but inside she was shivering.
<<He is a sweetheart?>>,she thought scolding herself,<<You are kidding me,right?Please,girl!>>, and turned red from embarrassment.
She raised her eyes from the road and saw Brandon looking up at a huge window at the house. Without realising,she looked too and saw a mysterious man looking at them and then walk away.Now his smile had faded and his gaze darkened.Ιt was almost...angry.
They didn't say anything else and Alex went on her way.The knot in her stomach didn't seem to cease and she was feeling anxious.She was sensing his eyes watching at her every move.Every step.She knew. But she didn't dare to turn back to make sure,although instead of going faster,she was walking slower,heavily.She was feeling dizzy,almost sick.For a few meters,they were walking side by side. He didn't take his eyes off her no matter how he tried to be discreet.Not far away from school he passed her by and opened the gate.He held it pretentiously indifferent until she walked in.He was everything but indifferent.There was something very special about that girl.What if she was the witch his father told him?The witch he was searching for?Regardless,she was very beautiful.He should quickly adjust to the new school to get over with this nonsense.That's what Brandon was thinking while he was walking inside the building towards the headmaster's office.
Alex stayed outside at her favourite corner,at a bench under an almond tree that slowly prepared it's leaves for autumn.She was feeling much better,although she couldn't take her mind off everything that had happened this morning.And most importantly,she should find out if the new guy was the werewolf her grandma told her about.The chances were high since most the kids she knew for quite a few years.But he was so kind.She had to learn,she thought persistently and sighed making a face of determination.She wasn't able to think of anything else since a very familiar voice talked to her cheerfully:
-I'm sorry,is your name Alex?I had a best friend a long time ago and you look exactly like her!
-Sam!,Alex said excited and hugged her,-You crazy!I've missed you!,she said trying to seem angry.
-You'll survive!,Sam joked flipping her black hair back.Her countless bracelets made noise by the movement of her hand.
-I'm sure,she teased her crossing her hands with a huffy look on her face.The two friends bursted out laughing.
Brandon got out of the building and Alex's gaze was stuck on him.It was like she was looking everything at slow motion.Sam,who knew her friend too well,didn't lose time to ask.
-Oh!So we like the new guy?
-Yes...No!..I mean...I mustn't...,she answered confused.
-Then why were you together?The whole class saw you,Sam teased her.She was joking,but it was obvious Alex liked him a lot.
-What?No!We weren't together!We just said 'hi',she answered nervously and her face turned red.
-I heard he's going to be in our class.You can...talk to him,Sam suggested.
She was sort of a...tomboy and never had a problem with that kind of stuff,but Alex was different.
-First of all,and tell him what?And secondly,he doesn't even like me,she answered shyly.
-Here we go again!If you don't talk to him how is he gonna get to know you,and how you'll figure out whether he likes you or not?,her friend said frustrated.
-Whatever,Alex changed the subject on purpose.-Did you have a good time?Your parents must have been very worried.
-It was perfect!We traveled across Europe!And don't worry about my parents,they had a pretty amazing time,too.They followed as with their car!I'm telling you,it was awesome!,Sam said excited and her eyes glowed with joy and enthousiasm.
-I'm so happy you had a great time!Please,give your parents a big hug from me...I can't imagine what they have to go through with you!
They wanted to say so much,but the violent ringing brought them back to reality and forced them to go to their class for the first lesson.
