Chapter 7-Hunt (part 2)

-Calm down and tell me exactly what you saw,Alex said reassuringly,but inside she was numb from what she heard.

-My father signed an order that's calling everyone to hunt Leonard's son and take revenge for all the wizards that were killed,she said after she took a few breaths.

Her words filled Alex with rage which was spreading to her heart like poison.

-Because he's the next Lord?,she asked.That was the first thought that crossed her mind.

-Because of his father!You still don't get it?This whole thing has to do with Joseph and Leonard!They want to take revenge on each other and you and Brandon are the targets!Neither expected you two to fall in love and that made them even angrier.

Alex's brain was blurred.A knot was created in her throat.She was furious and the only one responsible was her uncle.She stayed silent and still for a few seconds,but the image of Brandon being wounded and in danger because of her own blood was so vivid in her mind,that her legs ran by themselves.She run down the stair,not paying attention to her cousin,who was running behind her to catch her.Lindia knew that there was nothing that could stop their confrontation anymore.

-Alex stop,I'm beging you!,she yelled.

-Enough!

She opened the door and barged into his office.That moment,Joseph was holding some papers yellowed with age and was looking at them closely.He seemed surpised by their entrance.

-What is going on?,he asked frowned.

-If you hurt even a single hair of his,you're gonna have to deal with me!,Alex said to him.

-I don't know what you're talking about,Joseph answered indifferently.

-You know very damn well what I'm talking about.Brandon has done nothing to you!You will leave him alone,do you understand?,she yelled at him.

-He is the son of my enemy and he dared to come near my niece.I think these are enough reasons not to "leave him alone",as you put it,he answered her in a calm manner.

-Father,Alex is right.You're taking this too far,Lindia said to him.

-Lindia,get out!It's none of your business!This has nothing to do with you!,he shouted to his daughter.

Lindia,angry,gathered all the courage she possessed.

-No!,she said determined.Joseph looked at her baffled.

-What did you say?,he asked her and did a step forward.

-Exactly what you heard!My place is next to my cousin!,she said with a brave voice and moved in front of Alex.

Suddenly,a huge wave of freedom bursted inside her that she had been suppressing for a very long time,and it felt great.

-Be sure that I will kill him with my own hands!,he said stubbornly.

-You know what?You say that they are monsters,but the only monster I see,is you!,Alex answered him outraged,with the tears running down her cheeks uncontrollably.

-I would watch my words very much if I were you.You are the next Leader of the Wizards.Start acting like it!I won't tolerate this for much longer,he warned her.

-You have no heart!You are empty inside,she answered.You could see the aversion on her face.

-Yes!That's what you want to hear?There you go!I'm empty inside because they took everything from me!Her mother was the most precious thing I had and they killed her!They burnt her because of them!I heard her screams when she was calling for me to help her!,Joseph was yelling.He looked more tired than ever.Almost...human.

-And you want me to feel the same pain?,she asked him and looked deeply into his eyes.

His heart broke but he remained silent.They didn't say anything else.Alex got out of the office ,walked to the dark corridor and opened the front door.She just couldn't stay in there any longer.She was feeling like she was drowning and needed some fresh air.

Her steps,quick and steady,led her to the forest,which had a weird vim that night and was causing her nervousness.The stars were shining and lighting up the path.The sky was clear,without a single cloud.She was hearing sounds from afar which seemed,as the time was passing by,to be getting closer and louder.

-If something happens to her,forget me,Lindia said to her father and left him.

He,alone now,walked to the window and looked at the sky,which was haunting you with its immensity.His heart was breaking into a thousand pieces when he was thinking of how much he was hurting his niece.He still remembers the first time he held her to his arms when she was born.His child would be born in a few months but he felt the same excitement.A huge serenity and happiness that unfortunately wouldn't last for long.Ηe had sworn to protect her and his daughter forever and never hurt them,but that was an oath he couldn't keep.
