Alpha Grimaldi. Alpha Mason Grimaldi. The Alpha Mason Grimaldi. He is my mate.
I looked away from the gorgeous pair of grey eyes that were staring back at me and began to ponder. There are so many things that came with being Alpha Grimaldi's mate. Firstly, I would have to leave my family, my pack, my country... Hell, even my continent.
That's if he even accepted me as his mate. Mason Grimaldi doesn't seem like the type that dreams of having a mate. From what I've heard of him, I would think he'd kill his mate on the spot, the second he laid eyes on her. Of course, he wouldn't be able to do that with me. I'd break his neck before the thought even crossed his mind.
"Gianna, manners..." Lucas whispered in my ear. I didn't even know he was standing behind me. At this precise moment I realized I hadn't even moved an inch, I was too enthralled in my own thoughts. My mate was still standing in front of me, looking inquisitively into my hazel eyes.
"Alpha Grimaldi, what a pleasure." I greeted in a nice, but clipped tone, snapping out of my trance.
"Likewise." Came his short answer, he utilized a tone that was even colder than mine, but I must admit, his voice was borderline seductive. I stared into his eyes for a second longer, before looking elsewhere and heading towards my seat at the table.
Everyone took their seats, Alpha Grimaldi at one end of the table, with his warriors to his left and father at the other end, with us, his pack members, to his left as well. I was seated next to Alpha Grimaldi, but not by choice. It was customary to seat a high ranking wolf next to a visiting Alpha, it was a show of respect.
We were all served by the pack ladies and started to eat. The food was exquisite. Not as exquisite as my mate, but close enough.
I felt the glare before I saw it. It was a female from Alpha Grimaldi's pack, the hate her eyes conveyed would be enough to make anyone shiver in their seat, well almost anyone. I wasn't having it, I gave her my most intimidating glare and saw her quiver in her seat before quickly composing herself, but it was too late. I had already identified her weakness, the way she trembled showed she was insecure, so I just smirked at her before looking away... and that's when the knife flew.
My reflexes kicked in and I caught it, without looking, before it even grazed my face. This little girl clearly had no idea who she was messing with. You don't mess with Gianna Kuchno.
I turned back to look at her and noticed everyone at the table had fallen quiet, I felt my mates eyes on me.
"Your aim was off, your throw was weak, you were too slow and gave me time to react." I corrected nonchalantly. I turned the knife in my hand, point towards the perplexed girl seated across from me, who looked scared out of her mind. I threw it. Hard. It landed on her left shoulder and she let out a few low curse words. "Next one goes in your heart." I hissed slowly before continuing my scrumptious supper.
"Louise, outside. Now!" Came the furious growl from besides me. My mate stood up and left the dining room without another word and, the poor excuse of a warrior, Louise, followed after him.
"Disrespectful." I muttered under my breath, still appalled by the fact that this girl dared cross me.
I finished the rest of my dinner in silence, my mate never came back, not that I expected him too. I excused myself and headed up the stairs, towards my room.
I headed towards my bathroom to take a bath. Once I was inside the bathtub I let my thoughts consume me. I had met my mate. My mate was Mason Grimaldi.
He was definitely good looking. He had a chiseled jaw and brown hair that wonderfully complemented his tan skin. His muscles were perfectly defined, showing how fit he was, and he stood tall at 6'3 or 6'4. Don't even get me started on the eyes, those precious silver eyes that I knew would hunt me until my last breath.
After half an hour more, I decided to get out of the shower, seeing as my skin was already getting wrinkled. I dried myself and put on my sleeping gown. Once in my room, I turned of the light and headed towards my queen bed, getting comfortable.
As I was drifting off to sleep, snuggled in my comforter, a light knock was heard on the door. I knew who it was, my mate. His intoxicating smell gave it away. Earth and spice.
I opened the door and came face to face with Alpha Grimaldi. His eyes raked my body up and down, making me remember I was still in my night gown. I didn't cower away, he could check me out if he wanted to. He was my mate and I have never been ashamed of my body.
"Can I help you?" I asked breaking the silence and utilizing a serious tone. If he was showing up in my room, I would hope he's got a good reason. I may be his mate, but this is not his pack house; therefore, he can't just go wandering around.
"I came to apologize in Louise's behalf." He explained in the sexiest voice I have ever heard.
"I believe she can apologize for herself, but I appreciate the thought" I countered, and went to close my door, his smell was messing with my senses.
"Maybe you should apologize too, you did, after all, lacerate her shoulder." He said, catching the door before it closed. The way he said it, as if it was the most natural thing in the world, pissed me off.
"She deserved worse, I'm an Alpha and I deserve respect. What she did was low... and poorly executed." I hissed, mad that this guy, my supposed mate, was defending this little girl, even if she was a member of his pack. If anyone was in the wrong here it was that Louise. Hell would freeze over before I apologized. I don't apologize for things I regret, let alone things I don't.
"Watch your tone, mate." He threatened lowly. It was the first time any of us acknowledged being mates out loud, but instead of pleasant tingles I felt nauseous. The way he said it, it was meant to come as an insult, I know it was, and it hurt for some unknown reason. He said it with so much disgust, as if he was so above me. It seemed like he believed he deserved a better mate than me. So I glared at him and uttered cruel words, which I instantly regretted, but felt oh so satisfying to say at the moment.
"You don't deserve me as your mate." And with that, I shut the door in his face, and it wasn't until he had walked away that my racing heart decided to calm down.
