Erica sighed and lowered her head when Rheda was finally out of sight. She tried so hard, but her little sister still wouldn’t open up to her. She was in a mind set of thinking that everyone was against her, which for the most part was true. Indeed, mostly everyone in the realm of Muspelheim was against Rheda and hated her tremendously, but what her little sister was blind to was the fact that she still had people who cherished her dearly; Erica, for example. And she was pretty sure that Loki, no matter how much he denied it, was slowly developing a place for her in his heart.

“Don’t worry, she will open up eventually. I hope.” Loki said in an attempt to cheer her up, but failing immensely. Erica smiled inwardly at Loki’s silliness. He truly did have a soft side. It didn’t show itself much. But when it did, it brought joy to Erica’s soul.

The reason for this joy that filled her heart was not because he was trying to be kind and sweet to her, no, it was merely because he sucked at it, and it was funny to see and listen to. Have you ever watched a five year old make an endeavor to help his parents cook dinner? Yeah, Loki attempting to be kind was in some sorts very much like that.

Humorous and awkward, but still sweet.

“Thank you, Loki, but I am finding it hard to find any truth in your words.” Erica turned in his direction and looked him directly in his bright, emerald green eyes. “I fear that she might be too far gone to be saved. My dear sister has been in the dark for far too long, and having to face the fact you are to marry me doesn’t help her case.”

Loki’s eyes widened as he subconsciously gapped his mouth. Had Erica really just said that? Loki’s head began to spin as he contemplated the woman’s words.

Erica, noticing her king’s bewildered expression, decided to push the conversation a bit further, since he apparently had no clue of Rheda feelings for him.

“Rheda has never opened up to anyone as quickly as she has to you, Loki. You mean so much to her, perhaps even more to her than a friend. When I saw the look in her eyes every time you would enter through her cell door, I was pleased to see that she had found someone to care about, but saddened as well when I was reminded that you were betrothed to me, instead of her. I wish that there was something that we could do to stop it, but I am afraid there is no such thing.”

Loki gazed upon Erica as she spoke about Rheda and her true feelings. He had been blind to any and all of these things that she spoke of. How could he have missed the fact that someone actually cared about him in a way that could be defined as love? Oh, that’s right. He was a male. They couldn’t see love even if it smacked them in the face, as females would put it.

“Wait, you would try to break off your own marriage to make your sister happy? I thought that you two practically hated each other?” Erica smirked. He really was blind wasn’t he?

“I don’t hate my dear sister. I use to, but I have put the past behind me and have grown to cherish her dearly. Rheda has not, however. And to answer your question, let’s just say you are not the only one who has already given your heart to another.”

Loki narrowed his eyes. Was Erica saying that she was in love with someone else? Why hadn’t she said anything?

As if she was able to read his thoughts, Erica answered his question.

“If I would have said something to the church, they would have had him executed or banished on the spot. He is not of royal blood, and neither is he the Promised One. You are both, so you are fit for the role as my husband.”
