She raised her head to the direction of the door when she heard the door knob turn. She smelt his cologne before she saw him.
She let out a sigh of relief. "You're back."
"You're still not asleep." He responded, walking to her. He threw his coat on the bed and kissed her. As usual, she returned it with so much emotion. It was a normal thing. She would kiss him long and hard whenever her returned from work. It was like she was scared every time he left; he may not return.
Roman understood her. "I'm safe Cara. I'm home." He assured her.
She let him go.
"He's asleep?" He asked, referring to his son.
She tucks a lose strand behind her ear. "Right after his shower. Dozed off at exactly seven o'clock."
Roman snickered. "Must be tired."
"I'm sure. How did you're meeting go?"
He noticed a ting of sadness in her voice and he knew why. "Look I know you don't support this but there's no backing out now. I'm all in."
"And so am in........with you and our son." She immediately added. "And if I quite remember I made a vow, I'll stay with you no matter what."
He smiled at her statement. He couldn't help but kiss her. This was why he adored her. She got him like no other. He left for the bathroom and returned fifteen minutes later in his PJ pants. He joined her on the other side of the bed.
"Before I forget. Something came through for you." She stretched to his side for an envelope, giving him a perfect view her round ass when her night wear raised.
He licked his lips at the sight. His palm made contact with the left cheek making it jiggle.
"Ouch." She giggled, going back to her side. She handed him the envelope.
He raised an eyebrow before opening it. It was from his family. An invitation to a family dinner. The family dinner. He should have known.
He didn't think twice before tearing it into pieces.
"What was that for?" Nikki asked, sitting up a bit.
He played with her hair. "It's nothing."
"It's from your family."
"Exactly. Nothing."
"It's an invite. We have to attend." She wanted to meet the extended family. He on the other side didn't think it was necessary.
"My extended family is fucked up. I don't want them knowing you or Valentino."
"But......"
"Let it rest Cara." His tone was dismissive. He went don't on his pillow so his wife's head was on his chest. He turned off the lamp. "Night Cara."_
"Night Roman."
The next morning, Valentino was in the dining room before his parents. He was as active as ever, even at a young age of six. Stubborn to all but the sweetest thing to his parents. Everyone wanted to befriend him because of his family's affluence. Roman and Nikki walked in.
His father kissed him on the head before taking a seat. "How was your day yesterday?" He asked, sipping his coffee.
Valentino dropped his fork. "Ms. Banks wants to see you."
"Why?"
He shrugged. "I have no idea." Nikki raised an eyebrow at him. She already knew the story.
