"I don't know what to do right now!" Nikki was freaking out. She paced her husbands office. The men next in line for the first two elders were present with her.
The news came as shock to them. If someone had told them Dolan, the second in command of the Italian Don, would betray them, their would have denied it with their titles on the line.
Everyone knew of their story. After Roman's mother left he was there for him. Everyone in the family knew him as the only one Roman would listen to, aside his aunty, Monica. He was there for him when his illness took a wild turn. He even gave up his interest in Nikki for him, Roman to have her.
This was betrayal that no one ever saw coming.
"I'm so confused right now." Nikki admitted.
"Nikki I need you to relax." Monica tried to sooth her a bit but it didn't seem to work.
"I can't. My son has been kidnapped and my husband is behind bars." She said in a breath.
"I know but listen. This is the perfect time to show you can handle the position as the female leader."
Nikki rolled her eyes. Her husbands aunty was not getting her point. "Monica this is not the time for this. I can't even think straight how much more lead a bunch of grown ass men who......"
"Actually it's the only option you have here." Monica chipped in, cutting Nikki off. Nikki wanted so bad to trash her logic but maintained her peace, allowing her continue. "Dante and Russo will help you with managing things over there."
"I don't want to manage things. I just want my husband and my son back." Nikki interrupted. She run her hand through her curls. She let out a frustrated sigh. "I'll call you later."
Without waiting for a response she cut the call. She fell on the office chair with a tired sigh.
The two men waited patiently for her to open her eyes. After half a second, Dante couldn't wait. "So what's our next move?"
"I'm not....I don't know." She admitted. She was never really interested in this entire business. Actually she never thought she would need to handle it. That's why they had Dolan. He was to take control when Roman was not around and by the looks of things that would not be happening. "What exactly was Dolan to gain?" She thought out loud.
"Well he, for one, could now now present his petition to the elders as new Don." Russo answered.
It didn't make sense to Nikki. "You guys will just allow his betrayal?" Her voice held shock. Russo shook his head no. "In the eyes of every Maneini it's the highest form of betrayal and would definitely not be overlooked but mind you the Italian Mafia is not made up of only the Maneinis. Others may accept."
An unidentified furry took over Nikki. Sure she didn't think she had the heart to lead a bunch of ruthless people but that didn't mean she was going to just let her husband's world blow up.
"Call his lawyers. All of them." She ordered Dante. "Already on it." He responded. She nodded her head. She honestly didn't know how to manage her situation. "How about my son?"
Russo spoke up this time. "Just twenty four hours ago we got word from one of the kidnappers."
She raised her eyebrow, looking at him expectantly, urging him to continue. "Well........" She spoke up when he didn't. "
He relaxed in his seat. He knew what she was waiting for but that was the most he could tell her. "Let's just focus on Roman for now. Just know that Valentino will be back sooner."
