It was a normal day for Luna. She had school and after that, she went home to change and then she went to Jam & Roller. There, she had training for the next competition. This competition was for couples again. It took her a while to find a partner but she finally found one. She wasn't really thrilled about it but she had no other choice. Simòn decided to participate with Ámbar and the rest find another partner. The only one that was left, was Matteo. He had offered it several times but she denied because she was sure he only did it to tease her even more. After she admitted to herself that she wouldn't find anyone else, she accepted.
He was late today, she was already ready to go when he suddenly showed up. She decided to speak her mind when she first saw him but then she saw that he was sad and she stopped herself. Something must have happened.
"Are you okay?" Luna asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Don't worry." He forced a smile and skated onto the rink.
"You can't lie to me. I know you better than that. What is going on?" she followed him, she was starting to get really worried about him.
"I don't want to talk about it." He said in an almost rude tone.
"Fine, if you're not going to talk. We're not going to train and I'm going to follow you around until you tell me." Luna wasn't planning to give in that easily.
He sighed, clearly giving up: "Fine, in that case... it's my dad, he is leaving again and he wants me to go with him."
"Again? Wait, I thought you said that he cut you off?" Luna frowned, confused by the situation.
"I know but he thinks that if he goes with me. I'll go to Oxford anyway." There was no spark in his eyes as usual. He lost it because he had lost hope of ever following his dream.
"You need to speak up and tell him that this isn't what you want. If he really loves you, he'll understand."
"I tried that but it didn't work." He sighed again.
"Try again, never give up on your dreams." With that, she gave him a hug to try and comfort again. He returned the hug and a faint smile appeared on his face.
"Thank you for listening to me."
"No problem. You can always come to me if you want to." She gave him a bright smile and seeing her smile made him smile as well.
The next day, Matteo was still sad and Luna hated to see him that way. She wanted to help, she was distracted in class the next few days because she couldn't stop thinking about him. After a lot of thinking, she came up with an idea and she decided not to tell him because he would stop her for sure. After school, she went straight to Matteo's house.
She knocked and a housemaid opened, she stormed inside. She didn't want to lose her courage now that she had it.
Matteo and his dad were sitting in the living room. She didn't give anyone the chance to say something. She just started talking: "Mister Balsano, I need to speak to you."
"Okay, sure. Luna Valente right? My son has told me a lot about you. Matteo, can you leave us?" he demanded.
Matteo didn't want to listen at first but went to his room anyway.
"Tell me, what do you want to talk about?"
"It's about your son."
"You know he said a lot of amazing things about you, I think he has a crush on you. He said how talented you were and how he admired your strength and positivity. How you fight for what you want. How you're a light in his eyes that can never go out, he said that he needed the light you carry inside of you in his life." Luna had to smile because of this, she can't believe that he said all of this to his dad and that his dad remembered it all. It made her get a fuzzy feeling in her stomach, she was going to have deal with that later, she had to tell him now.
"Look, sir. Your son isn't happy right now."
"I wouldn't say that now that he gets to train with you." He gave her a forced smile. He clearly tried to avoid the subject but she won't let him win. This was too important.
"Matteo wants to stay here and be with his friends. He wants to follow his own path. That path isn't Oxford."
"This is not your or his decision to take, lady. He goes with me and he will go to Oxford." He was getting angry now.
"If you love your son, you won't take him with you. If you want him to be happy, you'll have to let him go." She was getting as well.
"You have a big mouth. What gives you the right to talk to me like that?"
"I'm just trying to help a friend."
"Get out now! Don't ever come back here again." He pointed at the door to make his point clear.
"Fine, I'll go. But, please, sir. Just think about it." She begged him.
When he didn't say anything she left and she was worried that she made the situation even worse.
The next day, she couldn't wait to see Matteo and ask him if his dad anything to him.
She almost jumped when she saw him come in school. She basically ran towards him which of course made her trip but he was at the right distance and caught her in his arms. He smiled at her, it seemed like he was a lot happier than last week.
"You look happy. What happened?" she immediately asked.
"My dad decided to let me stay." He gave her one of his brightest smiles.
"Really? That's amazing." She clapped in her hands out of excitement.
"Thanks to you. You're amazing, Luna."
Luna suddenly felt uncomfortable. Remembering what his dad said to her the day before.
"Matteo, there's something I need to talk to you about." He frowned but he didn't give an answer so she continued: "To avoid the subject, your dad told me a lot of stuff about how you talked about me to him. That I was amazing and that you loved all these things of me." Luna looked unsure at him and he was shocked.
"Did he now?" Luna nodded. "Well, if your question is that they're true or not. I gotta say that he was right." He felt a little uncomfortable.
"Really?"
"Yes, I think you're amazing and I love how brave you are and how you always carry a light within you that can light up the whole world."
This made her blush. "I can't believe that you're saying all of this."
"It's the truth." Was all he said.
Luna felt her stomach turning around and she suddenly felt the urge to kiss him and that's when it hit her.
"It's very rude of you to make me fall in love with you. Inconsiderate, really." He added. "You know, because of how you make me feel and because you make sure that I can't sleep without dreaming of you and that I can't stop thinking about you."
Luna had to blush even more. They looked into each other's eyes and Matteo waited for her to say anything but she didn't. That disappointed him a little.
As soon as she saw the disappointment on his face. She couldn't resist it anymore and she went in to kiss him. It surprised him at first but after a few seconds he kissed her back.
They were both happy to be in this moment, happy to share it. Happy to be together. They didn't care about the rest of the world. It was just the two of them.
