Scarlet ~ The Gifted {On Hiatus}

Flashback

Four years ago

We are riding down a long road as I have the time of my life with my girlfriend. I feel Valerie's grip tighten around me and a laugh escape her when I speed up towards a bar we sneak into ever since I got us fake IDs she asked for. I am 22 year old Bea Andrews and she is 21 year old Katie Vasquez. As we come into view of The Rush Bar on the skirt of Stone Mountain, GA a town a bit away from Atlanta. I pull into a parking spot near the other motorcycles and park, kicking the kickstand down. I shut the engine off and take my helmet off getting the bike and leaning on it as Val jump off and does the same but leans against me.

"You good? You aren't mad that I went a bit over the speed you like right?" She just giggles and leans herself onto me more kissing me. I slide my hands onto her hips and hold her as we deepen the kiss. We only pull back when we hear cat-whistling. She hides in my shoulder while I flip off the dude who put his hands up and stumbles back into the bar clearly showing he was drunk already. "Piss off!" We laugh and I cup her face and pull her into another kiss before pulling back with smiles on our faces. "Come on lets go inside I want to give you something and I'm starving. Hey no alcohol tonight remember, okay?" She smiles as I tug on her arm as we walk inside. She's unusually quiet tonight.

We walking into the smell of beer, loud music coming from the live band, and the grease from the kitchen. We weave our way towards the bar and wave to Mike the bartender as we sit down who give us the menus. "Alright babe what do you want to eat?" We flip through it while my hand comes to rest on her thigh. She tenses when I do that and I look at her but she avoids my stare, weird.

"So I want the spicy hot chicken burger, buns grilled, with large order of curly fries and a big cold Pepsi." Mike jots it down and turns to Val.

"You bet Bea. Now how about you Katie? You going to get something?" She just shakes her head.

"No I'll just share with her, not really that hungry tonight." He nods and walk to put our order in when I turn to her.

"You okay? You are acting very not yourself tonight." I look at her worried a bit. 

"Let's just eat and then get out of here. I need to talk to you without so many people around."

Now this has got me worried. "It isn't the 'we need a break talk' is it?"

"What? No! It's different, look can we talk about this later please and just enjoy the moment?" She ask placing a hand on my hand and I just nod but rub soothing circles on her thigh with my thumb. The food and drinks are placed in front of us and she changes the subject.

Once we left the bar we drove to the side of the mountain in this town but by the side with a great view of the city below us. I park Lucy and get off as we walk across the street towards the railing overlooking the city. I lean against it waiting for her to start. 

We stay in a awkward silence for a few more minutes before she finally speaks up. "I know you think I want to break up but I don't, I really don't. But I also don't want to keep secrets from you or lie to you. So I need you to listen til I finish, okay?" I nod, a serious expression on my face. "Remember that night you were suppose to go with me to Annies' party but your sister had that misfortune in dance class so you dropped me off. Well I was kind of upset so things got out of hand and I just kept drinking shots after shots after shots. I, uh, I woke up the next morning to a phone call. I was so out of it but I still managed to feel a, um , a arm wrapped around me holding me in place. A-At first I thought it was you so I thought nothing of it. But when I answered the phone and heard your voice on the other end I-I-I freaked out. I looked next to me and saw the mistake my drunken self did. There was a girl next to me, naked. I thought it was a guy at first but no she was just a butch but I just didn't know what to do. I hung up and jumped the hell out of that bed and ran out the house once I got dressed. I wanted to forget that it happened and never bring it up, never lose you, so I decided to never to tell you. But I can't lie to you anymore, the guilt was eating me up inside. That is why I am telling you this now. Please don't hate me Tali, you have to understand why." At this point my blood is boiling. I can't believe this! I hear her start to crying but I did nothing to comfort her. I had so much to say about this betrayal but the words kept jumbling up in my throat not allowing me to say anything.
