Walking with Wolves

Chapter 11

Hazel and Emily were waiting for their first period teacher to arrive.

"Did you see River?" Emily asked.

"No, and I really don't want to." Hazel sighed.

"Hey, my teacher is not here, so I'm skipping here." Jake said as he slid into the desk next to Hazel.

"You shouldn't skip." Hazel scolded.

"Of course mother." Jake teased.

"Don't get snippy!" Hazel protested.

"Hey, anyone notice that the teacher is 30 minutes late?" Emily pipped up.

Hazel looked at the clock and Emily was right the teacher was late. Hazel stepped in the hallway and looked around. No, teachers were around and only the good students were still in the school.

"There's no one here." Hazel whispered.

"Please, pardon this interruption, would all students please go to the auditorium." The speaker announced.

The students headed to the auditorium slowly.

"Do you think this has to do with the late teachers or missing students?" Jake asked.

"Probably." Hazel answered.

The students filed into the auditorium and took their seats. There was a loud buzz of chatter and talk. Soon, the auditorium was full and the doors clicked shut. After, a few minutes the students began to get restless.

"Come on, let's go, there is no use being here." Jake said annoyed.

He stood up and made his way through the students. He was followed by Hazel and Emily. Jake pulled on the door, but it wouldn't open. He tugged harder, but it still wouldn't open. Hazel and Emily tried and again it wouldn't open.

"We're trapped!" Emily was slightly panicked.

"Calm down, it's an old door. It's probably just stuck." Hazel tried to calm down Emily.

The chatter slowly began to quite.

"What's going on?" Jake slammed his fist against the door frustrated.

Hazel looked into the auditorium. The students were slowly falling asleep.

"Why is everyone falling asleep?" Emily asked.

"I think someone is gasing the students." Hazel whispered.

"What!? We are going to die!" Emily panicked.

"Calm down! If you panic you will breath in more gas!" Jake snapped.

"Let's see if the bathroom windows will open." Hazel said as she pushed against the locked bathroom door.

Emily wasn't calming down and quickly passed out. Jake groaned as he caught Emily. Hazel was starting to feel the effects of the gas.

"Jake." Hazel whispered as she leaned against the wall.

"Oh no, don't pass out on me too. I'm not dragging your butt around as well." Jake growled.

Hazel pulled out her cellphone and tried to call River, "Of course, no signal."

Jake set Emily down, "Hazel, stay with me."

Hazel slumped against the wall still fighting sleep. Jake was struggling to stay awake and soon they couldn't move. Ten minutes later the lunch ladies opened the doors.

"Enough meat to eat for years." The brunette lunch lady said.

They began to drag students to the kitchen. Students were stacked in a pile. The lunch ladies began to sharpen knives. Just as they were about to cut into a female student, River and other members of the pack burst in. The lunch ladies screamed as the pack began to attack. Hazel laid there watching as the pack quickly took out the lunch ladies. River came over and picked up Hazel.

"It's okay." He whispered.

Sleet picked up Emily. The students were returned to the auditorium, so that the wolves would not be under suspicion. Sleet had remembered that one of the lunch ladies had smelled off when they went to the school. As they got onto the campus they could tell something wrong. River had followed Hazel's scent to the kitchen. The students woke up a few minutes later and besides being confused were fine. No one questioned it much.

Two months later
Hazel and River were doing well leading the pack. The pack loved Hazel. Sleet and Emily had finally hit it off. The lunch ladies were arrested, tried, and found guilty. All in all, all was well with the pack.
