(Your POV)
"Sans, Papyrus?" I called out into the empty house. Ever since I fell into the underground I had been living with Tori. She was like the mother I missed so dearly, but she could never replace her. It was a cold winter day and my mom and dad were leaving for a business trip. It was supposed to be a week but... when they were driving to the airport a drunk driver hit them... there were no survivors. The last words I had said to them where 'be safe, I love you.'
Their funeral was held on Valentine's Day... ironic if you ask me. A day for Love and happiness was a day of grief and sadness. My mother was a dancing star, she was well known and often invited to dance on TV. I had tried to follow her footsteps but I was always too shy to perform in front of people. One time I was preforming for a talent show when I broke down. I had signed up before my mom... passed and the talent show was a week after their funeral. I broke down, I still remember everything about that day.
The stage was small but still big enough to dance on and not fall off. I was going to dance to Swan Lake. The music started and I jumped into the stage in my white ballet dress with a golden rim. A white mask with feathers on my face. When I first showed my mother the outfit she said it was like it was made just for me. As if I was a swan that was turned into a human.
I began my performance. I wasn't two seconds in when I fell to the ground. I cried hard, it was a total mental breakdown. The judges taped the mic. "Thank you, miss (l/n), that will be all." They said I gathered myself and ran out of the room. I haven't danced in front of anyone since.
I walked into the skeleton's house taking off my hoodie leaving me in my tank top and leggings. I found no one. I looked around. 'They wouldn't mind if I stayed here for a little bit would they?' I thought as I looked around again and found no one. I sighed and turned on the TV. A song began, a song that brought back so many memories of my mother and I dancing together.
Almost as if on autopilot, I stood up and began to dance. Twirling, prancing, and... singing. This song meant so much to me. A tear slid down my cheek as I thought about my family. I pushed through the tears and continued to dance. "The night time.......is the right time." I didn't notice the door opened as I continued to dance and sing. I sunk to the ground with grace as the song died down (like when they slowly slid down to the ground at the end of the song). I stayed like that until the song was completely over. I opened my eyes and got up only to see two shocked skeletons. I froze in my spot. "Wow!" They said. I began to cry, I quickly ran past them and into town.
I ran into the library and closed the door. I slid down and sighed in relief. I waved at the librarian who was staring at me confused. "Umm, have any recommendations?" I asked laughing nervously. She handed me a book and I thanked her. I walked to a table and began to read the book. It was hard to focus, I was worried that Papyrus and Sans saw me. It was all I could think about. 'What if they ask me how I learned to dance or who taught me? I can't tell them about my mom and dad, they're the whole reason I'm down here...' I shook the thoughts away. 'I'm overreacting, I'll be fine. Besides I have to get back to Tori anyway, but not before getting some food.'
I walked out of the library, well not before giving the book back. I walked into Grillbys and smiled at how warm and homie it was. I walked up to the bar and called over Grillby. Grillby walked over and waved at me. "Hello Grillby, how are you today?" I asked. "I'm just fine Y/n, but Sans was telling me that you ran out of their house in tears when they walked in on your dancing. Want to tell an old flam monster why that is?" I laughed. "First off, you aren't old. Second off, I'd rather not talk about it... it's just too personal." He nodded. "Fries?" I nodded and he walked off.
🎶 I wanna dance in the dark~🎶
I froze and slowly turned around and saw Sans dancing to the song. 'Why that song, any other song and it would be fine, but noooo, has to be that song.' I turned away before he caught sight of me. I felt a few tears start to form and I quickly whipped them away. Grillby came back with my fries. "So, Sans still performing here?" I asked trying to take my mind off the song. Grillby nodded and I chuckled sadly. "Y/n? Are you ok?" Grillby asked. "Yeah... I'm fine, the fries are just kinda hot." Grillby shook his head but walked away.Sans walked up to the bar. I went to grab my hood to hide but remembered it was still at the skeleton's house. I avoided eye contact with Sans and held my breath. "Hey Y/n," Sans said smiling. I released my breath and forced a smile on my face. "H-hey Sans... H-how are you?" I asked. "I'm fine, but what about you? You look... upset." I shook my head. "Oh no, I'm fine," I said and looked away.
Sans took a seat by me. "Grillby, the usual please," Sans said, Grillby nodded and walked off to the back. "So, about earlier..." Sans started. "Oh, would you look at the time, better get back to Tori. You know how she is." I said and dashed out of the bar and yelled: "Put my food on Sans' tab please!" I ran to the ruins and knocked on the door. Tori opened the door and I dashed in and closed the door behind me. "My child! Where is your hoodie?" She asked worriedly. "It's at Sans and Papyrus' house. I kinda left in a hurry.
She nodded. "Oh well, as long as you're not sick and you stay warm." I smiled at Tori. We began to walk upstairs until we heard a knock at the door. "Hey, kiddo! I know you're in there." It was Sans, I froze. "Tori, don't open it" I whispered. "I thought Sans was your friend, did something happen?" I nodded and explained to her what was going on, well I left out my parents. "So you don't want to talk to him because he saw you dancing?" I nodded and she laughed.
"Oh, that's so silly. If you're afraid he will judge you then I can tell you he won't. I've known that skeleton a long time, so I know you have nothing to worry about." She opened the door and I hid behind her like how a little kid clings to their mom's leg when they first meet someone. "Yo Tori. The kid here?" She chuckled. "Yes, she is just playing shy," Tori said. I took the moment to try and sneak upstairs but was caught when Sans teleported in front of me.
"Heya kiddo." He said handing me my hoodie. I avoided eye contact and took it from him. I then pushed past him and made a beeline for my room. "Kiddo wait up," Sans yelled chasing after me. "Sans just leave me alone!" I said a tear sliding down my face. I ran into my room and closed the door. I slid down the door and began to cry into my hoodie. Memories of my family flooded back which made me cry more.
'They can't know why I'm down here. They would only worry... and that wouldn't help anyone.'
